The following letter-form was brought about as a means of teaching my children the Word of God through the mail. And of course, quite naturally so, that’s the reason I begin these letters with "Dear Children" and end them with "Love Dad". So for the rest of you who participate in these weekly messages, please keep their original intended purpose in mind.
24 June, 2007
Dear Children,
This week’s sermonet – “Roman Catholicism And The Idol” – is a bit of a surprise to say the least. I mean I was very much so involved in finishing up what I thought would be our next message – “Marijuana: The Weed God” – when the Lord kind-a like sprung this one on me.
You see the way it all happened was a few days ago we were listening to The Berean Call’s Search The Scriptures Daily radio program when Dave Hunt made the following comment to Tom McMahon:
“…And we get the Ten Commandments, which we won’t read, and it’s interesting that, Tom, you were raised a Catholic, you know that the Catholic church, at least for many years, they eliminated ‘not to make a graven image’, actually the second commandment, and which was so that they could come out with ten, they divided the last one into two. At the last NRB, TBN, Trinity Broadcasting Network, gave out a little key-chain with TBN on it and then you open it up and there’s the Ten Commandments in there. They also eliminate that one. It’s not honest, it is dishonest, it is tampering with God’s Word. They left it out because, apparently, they didn’t want to offend the Catholics, or maybe if you go their headquarters there, you can see a few graven images in there.”
Now if you would like to listen to “Dave and Tom’s” complete message, the program was entitled Does Prophecy Validate the Bible and it originally aired on 1/1/06. You can find it on the Web, under The Berean Call’s radio program archives, at “http://www.thebereancall.org/radio”.
But anyway, getting back to my story, we were sitting at the table eating lunch when Dave made his profound statement which immediately brought my attention to the TBN Ten Commandment’s key-chain on the table in front of me. I could hardly believe what I was hearing! You see the key-chain, which holds the key to our mailbox, belongs to Brother Alan, and neither he nor I had really ever scrutinized the contents thereof until that moment. Because what we soon discovered was that Paul and Jan Crouch (TBN) had deleted the second commandment and made up for it by splitting the first commandment into two:
1. I am the Lord thy God
2. Thou shalt have no other Gods before me
3. Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain
4. Remember the Sabbath day and keep it holy
5. Honour thy father and thy mother
6. Thou shalt not murder
7. Thou shalt not commit adultery
8. Thou shalt not steal
9. Thou shalt not bear false witness
10. Thou shalt not covet anything that is thy neighbor’s
Now did you catch that? According to Exodus chapter 20, “I am the Lord thy God” was not God’s first commandment but only the introduction to it. “Thou shalt have no other Gods before me” was actually the first, and “Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image” the second. However, from that point on TBN’s listing of the Ten Commandments was right on target: “Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain”, “Remember the Sabbath day and keep it holy” and so on.
But the question remains: “Why in the round world would Paul and Jan Crouch (TBN) tamper with God’s Ten Commandments?” I mean why do you think they were so willing to defy God, and likewise suffer His impending wrath, in order to remove His #2 commandment concerning “the worship of idols”?
Well the answer to that question is what this sermonet is all about…and what this sermonet is all about is “The Idol” that the Roman Catholic Church will demand the whole wide world to worship in the very near future! Amen? In fact if you really want the low-down on TBN’s ungodly involvement with the Roman Catholic Church, and the worship of their idols, then check out Jack Chick’s book Smokescreens. You can read it on the Web at “http://www.chick.com/reading/books/153/153cont.asp”, and make sure to check out the Show Biz chapter for the “wicked skinny” on Paul and Jan Crouch.
OK, so with that in mind, let’s go back in time and look at just a few of the accomplishments made by the Roman Catholic Church in their effort to implement “idol worship” in the Church:
The first Christians were not adverse to art, but they had no images of Christ. From 100-400 A.D. Christian leaders rebuked various ones for seeking to introduce images of Christ and saints into their worship…After 850 A.D. the cult of image worship in churches began to grow due to arguments for images and stories of miracles performed through them. Blessings were claimed for the images themselves and finally in 1188 it was declared that denial of images was a denial of God. In 1225 it was said that Christ was not Christ unless He was graven. Even Thomas Aquinas (1265) declared that an image of Christ claims the same veneration as Christ Himself. The 25th session of the Council of Trent (1551-1552) justified the worship of images. Thus, from the beginning until now the controversy has raged, and the image worship has been accepted by many as authorized by God. The fact remains though, that the Bible is against all uses of images in worship. (Dake's Annotated Reference Bible)
Now just in case you didn’t know it, the Council of Trent is one of those Roman Catholic gatherings where the Roman Catholic big shots play God. And it was during their 25th session that they decided God didn’t know what He was talking about when He came up with His second commandment of “Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image”…so they changed it! In fact it was some years later (1970) that a few of the Roman Catholic bible scholars, in cooperation with the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, got together and published an “authorized” Roman Catholic bible – the New American Bible (NAB). And, according to the principles of Vatican II, they included the following blasphemous footnote in Exodus chapter 20 concerning the Ten Commandments:
The precise division of these precepts into "ten commandments" is somewhat uncertain. Traditionally among Catholics Exodus 20:1-6 is considered as only one commandment, and Exodus 20:17 as two. Cf Deut 5:6-21. (New American Bible)
So did you catch the import of that one? Well just in case you didn’t, let’s see what the 1994 edition of the Handbook For Today’s Catholic has to say about it. I mean, after all, the following is the stated purpose of this little book:
The basic purpose of this Handbook is to provide information on the essentials of Catholicism and to enlighten all who wish to live out the teachings of Vatican II. Toward those ends, this edition of the Handbook has been fully indexed to the Catechism of the Catholic Church. Throughout the text, the numerical citations direct you to the segment of the Catechism where specific topics and subjects are explained. (Handbook For Today’s Catholic – Introduction)
So that’s the introduction to the 1994 edition of the Handbook For Today’s Catholic, and now for the corruption found within. Because in Section Two – Practices we find the following blasphemous teachings on the Ten Commandments:
1. God’s Two Great Commandments
[Book III, Part 2]
The basis of all law (your rule of life) rest on two commandments:
“You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind…You shall love your neighbor as yourself” (Matthew 22:37, 39) [2055, 2083].
2. Commandments of God
[2064-2557]
These are an extension of the two great commandments. The first three tell you how to love your God; the rest show you how to love your neighbor [2196].
1. You shall honor no other god but me [2084-2141].
2. You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God [2142-2167].
3. Remember to keep holy the Sabbath [2168-2195].
4. Honor your father and your mother [2197-2257].
5. You shall not kill [2258-2330].
6. You shall not commit adultery [2331-2400].
7. You shall not steal [2401-2463].
8. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor [2464-2513].
9. You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife [2514-2533].
10. You shall not covet your neighbor’s goods [2534-2557].
So there you have it! The Roman Catholic Church has removed the second commandment that forbids idol worship and likewise made up for it’s mysterious disappearance by splitting the last commandment in two. In fact the following are the “real” Ten Commandments as found in Exodus 20:3-17 of God’s Holy Bible (King James Version):
1. Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
2. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image…
3. Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain...
4. Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy…
5. Honour thy father and thy mother…
6. Thou shalt not kill.
7. Thou shalt not commit adultery.
8. Thou shalt not steal.
9. Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.
10. Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's.
Now in order to further disprove the Roman Catholic Church’s “Ten Commandment” lie, let’s approach it from a different angle. Because first of all there were two tables (tablets) that the Ten Commandments were written on:
“And the LORD said unto Moses, Come up to me into the mount, and be there: and I will give thee tables of stone, and a law, and commandments which I have written; that thou mayest teach them…And he gave unto Moses, when he had made an end of communing with him upon mount Sinai, two tables of testimony, tables of stone, written with the finger of God.” (Exodus 24:12; 31:18 KJV)
There were two tables of stone, and God wrote two sets of commandments on them:
“Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him, and saying, Master, which is the great commandment in the law? Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.” (Matthew 22:35-40 KJV)
So the “first set” of commandments written on the tablets was related to “loving God”, and the “second set” to “loving mankind” (love one another – love thy neighbor). And taking that one step further, Paul, in the book of Romans, gives us a complete listing of the commandments found in the “second set”:
“Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law. For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.” (Romans 13:8-9 KJV)
And there you have it! The complete list, numbers 6 through 10, of the “Five Commandments” on “loving mankind” that were inscribed by God on the second tablet:
And seeing how we’re talking about the “Ten Commandments”, that means the remaining “Five Commandments” on “loving God” (numbers 1 through 5) were inscribed by God on the first tablet:
1. Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
2. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image…
3. Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain...
4. Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy…
5. Honour thy father and thy mother…
Now having said all that, it only stands to reason that Commandments number 1 through 5 were “the first and great commandment to love the Lord thy God”…which of course blows that Roman Catholic belief system (the Catechism of the Catholic Church) slap out of the water. Because if you remember, the following is what they had to say about tablet #1:
“These are an extension of the two great commandments. The first three tell you how to love your God…”
Are you still with me? So why do you figure the Roman Catholic Church has gone to such great lengths to get rid of that one little old Commandment: “Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image”?
Well the answer to that one is easy! In fact the bottom line reason for all their very obvious “lies” has everything to do with the following prophetic Scripture on “The Idol” of the Roman Catholic Church:
“And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy. And the beast which I saw was like unto a leopard, and his feet were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion: and the dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority. And I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death; and his deadly wound was healed: and all the world wondered after the beast. And they worshipped the dragon which gave power unto the beast: and they worshipped the beast, saying, Who is like unto the beast? who is able to make war with him? And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given unto him to continue forty and two months. And he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme his name, and his tabernacle, and them that dwell in heaven. And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations. And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world. If any man have an ear, let him hear. He that leadeth into captivity shall go into captivity: he that killeth with the sword must be killed with the sword. Here is the patience and the faith of the saints. And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon. And he exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him, and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed. And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men, And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live. And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed. And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.” (Revelation 13:1-17 KJV)
So now do you understand the underlying reason for the Roman Catholic Church to promote their “idol worship”? The Roman Catholic Church is the “First Church of the Antichrist”. Their White Pope (Benedict the 16th) is the “second beast” of Revelation 13 (also known as the “false prophet”) who will demand “world wide” worship of “The Idol” made in the image of the Black Pope (Jesuit General Kolvenbach) who is the “first beast” (Antichrist). And it’s only through many years of preparation, that, in the very near future and at the appropriate time, millions of “Christians” will bow their knees before “The Idol” of the Antichrist and doom their souls to the everlasting fires of Hell.
What a bust! In fact the reality of what’s taking place with this “worship of idols in Christ’s Church” has been demonstrated many times before with a frog. You see the way to cook a live frog in water, without even getting him all upset and aroused, is to gradually elevate the temperature of the water. By turning up the heat real slow his body will become so accustomed to the water’s temperature that he’s cooked before he knows it.
Amazing! And you see that’s the way it is with most Christians of today: they are the frogs in Christ Church who’ve jumped into the pot of the Apostate Church (TBN and the likes). They’re really getting cooked with all the false teachings on “idol worship”!
But anyway, check out the sermonets “The Roman Catholic Curse In The Passion Of The Christ! (4/25/04)” and “The Demons Of Cristo Rey And El Paso, Texas! (1/25/04)” on the Web site for more on the subject of the Roman Catholic Church and their idols…and keep on keeping the faith in Jesus!
Love,
Dad (Bruce Hallman)
PS:
I almost forgot! Remember the “proof” Scripture in Romans 13:8-9; the one where Brother Paul listed the “Five Commandments” from God to “love thy neighbour as thyself”? Well let me show you what the Roman Catholic Church has done to pervert that same gospel:
Owe nothing to anyone, except to love one another; for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law. The commandments, “You shall not commit adultery; you shall not kill; you shall not steal; you shall not covet,” and whatever other commandment there may be, are summed up in this saying, (namely) “You shall love our neighbor as yourself.” (New American Bible)
OK, so how many commandments did you find listed in the Roman Catholic “New American Bible”? There was only four! And would you care to take a guess at which one is missing? How about
“YOU SHALL NOT LIE!”
Gee! I wonder why the Roman Catholic Church would leave out that one? I mean, can you even imagine?
