The following letter-form was brought about as a means of teaching my children the Word of God through the mail. And of course, quite naturally so, that’s the reason I begin these letters with "Dear Children" and end them with "Love Dad". So for the rest of you who participate in these weekly messages, please keep their original intended purpose in mind.
Dear Children,
Have you ever heard someone that considers them self to be expert on a particular subject talk for hours on that same subject, when in all actuality they didn’t really know what they were talking about? And the truth being known, if you could have only gotten pass all the words that were being spoken, and just come to an understanding of what was actually being said, it would have become blatantly obvious that the person doing all the talking didn’t have the foggiest idea of what he was talking about.
In fact, as a compliment to our last sermonet – “Jimmy Swaggart: The Epitome Of Arrogance!” – we’re going to continue our discussion on Jimmy Swaggart with today’s message: “Jimmy Swaggart, Take Up YOUR CROSS And Follow Jesus!” Because you see Jimmy Swaggart is actually the one doing all the talking, and he doesn’t have the foggiest idea about what he’s talking about when it comes to “The Cross Of Christ!” And what makes matters even worse is that hundreds of thousands of people are “buying into” Jimmy Swaggart’s “perverted cross” through his audio, video, commentary, and bible sales. In fact the focus for today’s message is going to be the perverted bible of all perverted bibles – the Jimmy Swaggart Expositor’s Study Bible (JSESB)!
So that’s where we’re headed. But before we go there, please allow me to lay up a little groundwork on how this ghastly bible perversion all came about. Because you see in our last sermonet – “Jimmy Swaggart: The Epitome Of Arrogance!” – we laid out some of the facts on Jimmy Swaggart’s sin problem with the prostitutes, and his arrogant rejection of the godly counsel that would have prevented those sexual escapades from ever happening… that is if he would have only listened and obeyed. But seeing how Jimmy Swaggart was (and still is) beyond reproof – “I live close enough to Him that He can speak to me as well” – it was his very own arrogant ways, that brought about his very own “crash and burn”, that allowed the whole wide world to finally see him as he really is… with his pants down!
But then, in his darkest hours of despair and shame, as the whole wide world gawked at his unbelievable nakedness, Jimmy Swaggart cried out to God for the understanding of just how such an ungodly thing could happened to such a godly man as he. And then, after many months of seeking God’s Face for the answer, Jimmy Swaggart says that he finally received the “revelation of the cross” that delivered him from the “sin of pornography”. In fact this is what he had to say about his “revelation experience” in the “Family Worship Center Home Church Video – May 2005, 1st Sunday”:

*******************************
“…How I love every Word of this Book. But there is something about Romans, that’s the Magna Carta of my life. Because I was in that great sixth chapter of Romans when the Spirit of God came upon me and a few moments time He began to show me the answer. First He showed me the problem. He told me, He said the problem is the sin nature. You don’t understand about the sin nature. And if you do not understand it, it will rule your life in some way just as it did before you were saved. It will not rule and reign as it did totally but it will in some manner, no matter how hard you try otherwise. I don’t care how consecrated you are…
“…and the Lord said the problem is you don’t understand the sin nature. You don’t understand how it works, you don’t understand how to overcome it. He didn’t give me any answer as far as to how to overcome it, He just told me, He said the problem is the sin nature…
“…the Lord spoke to my heart and said now I’m going to tell you the answer to the sin nature. The answer for which you seek is the Cross. The solution for which you seek is the Cross. And it’s not one (1) of five (5) solutions or two (2) solutions it is the only solution. There remaineth one sacrifice for sin and that is the, the Cross of Jesus Christ. That’s the reason we preach the Cross, we sing the Cross, we shout the Cross, we talk the Cross, we dream the Cross, we pray the Cross…”
*******************************
Now, even though Jimmy Swaggart claims to have been delivered from pornography through his “revelation knowledge of Romans chapter 6”, it’s abundantly obvious that Jimmy Swaggart has not been delivered from that lust of his flesh… as in pornography. It is still, right now, at this very moment, a very real part of Jimmy Swaggart’s physical/spiritual being! So what went wrong? Just what was the Lord trying to tell Jimmy Swaggart so many years ago?
“He said the problem is the sin nature …and the Lord said the problem is you don’t understand the sin nature. You don’t understand how it works, you don’t understand how to overcome it… The answer for which you seek is the Cross… There remaineth one sacrifice for sin and that is the, the Cross of Jesus Christ.”
Jimmy Swaggart’s problem was (and still is) that he doesn’t understand the sin nature and how to overcome it. Because the “Cross of Jesus” that he so loudly proclaims in his “Jimmy Swaggart Expositor’s Study Bible” is not at all the same “cross” of which he was given the “revelation” knowledge.
“That’s the reason we preach the Cross, we sing the Cross, we shout the Cross, we talk the Cross, we dream the Cross, we pray the Cross…”
Jimmy Swaggart’s focus is on “The Cross” by which Jesus was crucified for the sin(s) of the world. And the following is what Hebrews had to say about that particular “Cross”:
“Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second. By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins: But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God; From henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool. For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.” (Hebrews 10:9-14 KJV)
So are you starting to see a problem with Jimmy Swaggart’s “revelation on the cross”? Well, let me help you out.
You see the Sacrifice that Jesus made on His cross, some 2000 years ago, was final. He did it once, never to be done again! But yet the following “revelation” is what the Lord gave Jimmy Swaggart as the answer to his question on how to overcome his sin problem:
“There remaineth one sacrifice for sin and that is the, the Cross of Jesus Christ.”
The “Cross of Jesus Christ” that Jimmy Swaggart teaches/preaches, as the answer to the sin problem, is not at all the “revelation” he was given. It can’t be! Because, as it concerns “Jesus Christ and Him crucified”, “there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins”… not even one! It was finished on His cross some 2,000 years ago!
Now I fully realize that what I’m saying about our beloved Jimmy Swaggart is extremely heavy-duty and really hard to handle… but it’s God’s Truth! And in order to help you see the reality of “The Cross” that Jimmy Swaggart teaches/preaches, please allow me to share the following excerpt from Keith Green’s “ The Catholic Chronicles” (written shortly before his death):
“The Roman Catholic Church believes and teaches that in every Mass, in every church, throughout the world (estimated at up to 200,000 Masses a day) that Jesus Christ is being offered up again, physically, as a sacrifice for sin (benefiting not only those alive, but the dead as well!) Every Roman Mass is a re-creation of Jesus' death for the sins of the world. NOT A SYMBOLIC RE-CREATION - but a literal, actual offering of the flesh and blood of the Lord to make daily atonement for all the sins that have been daily committed since Jesus was crucified almost 2,000 years ago.”
Now with that in mind, are you starting to see a picture of “The Cross” that Jimmy Swaggart worships day-in and day-out? “There remaineth one sacrifice for sin… the Cross of Jesus Christ.”
So that’s the introduction! And now it’s time for a few quotes from the “Jimmy Swaggart Expositor’s Study Bible”. I mean, after all, we’re going to use Jimmy Swaggart’s very own words to drive home the point of this message for today. In fact what better place to start than “the Magna Carta” of Jimmy Swaggart’s life – that great sixth chapter of Romans! (I’ll include the King James Version as a comparison.)
“Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?” (Romans 6:16 KJV)
“Know you not, that to whom you yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants you are to whom you obey (the Believer is either a slave to Christ, for that’s what the word “servant” means, or else a slave to sin, which he will be if he doesn’t keep his Faith in Christ and the Cross); whether of sin unto death (once again allow us to state the fact that if the Believer attempts to live for God by any method other than Faith in the Finished Work of Christ, the Believer will fail, no matter how hard he otherwise tries), or of obedience unto Righteousness? (The Believer is required to obey the Word of the Lord. He cannot do that within his own strength, but only by understanding that he receives all things through what Christ did at the Cross and his continued Faith in that Finished Work, even on a daily basis. Then the Holy Spirit, Who Alone can make us what we ought to be, can accomplish His work within our lives.) ” (Romans 6:16 JSESB)
The italicized comments (in parenthesis) in the JSESB are Jimmy Swaggart’s very own words, not God’s. And even though he seems to know what he’s talking about concerning “obedience unto righteousness” – “obey the Word of the Lord” – it’s really only a smokescreen that hides the real truth of his error. Because Jimmy Swaggart actually yields himself as a servant to obey his “Faith in Christ and the Cross” instead of “faith in the Word of the Lord” :
“For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.” (Romans 8:13-14 KJV)
“For if ye live after the flesh (after your own strength and ability, which is outside of God’s prescribed order), you shall die (you will not be able to live a victorious, Christian life): but if you through the Spirit (by the Power of the Holy Spirit) do mortify the deeds of the body (which the Holy Spirit Alone can do), you shall live (shall walk in victory; but once again, even at the risk of being over repetitive, we must never forget that the Spirit works totally and completely within the confines of the Cross of Christ; this means that we must ever make the Cross the object of our Faith, giving Him latitude to work). For as many as are led by the Spirit of God (the Spirit will always lead us to the Cross), they are the sons of God (we live as sons of God, which refers to total victory within every respect of our lives; if the sin nature is dominating a person, he certainly isn’t living as a son of God).” (Romans 8:13-14 JSESB)
Jimmy Swaggart the “snake oil salesman” – twisting God’s Truth into the Devil’s lie… and making it ever so believable! “We must ever make the Cross the object of our Faith – the Spirit will always lead us to the Cross”, he says. And that’s the very same reason Jimmy Swaggart is still in bondage to (a slave to), his stinking, lustful flesh! Jimmy Swaggart worships “The Cross Of Christ”, but the Power of God unto salvation is in the “Word of the Lord” for each individual Believer and their obedience to it:
“It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.” (John 6:63 KJV)
“It is the Spirit Who quickeneth (the Holy Spirit); the flesh profiteth nothing (in effect says, “If you could literally eat My Flesh, and drink My Blood, it would not save your souls”; the word “flesh” as it is used here speaks of man’s efforts, whatever they might be, apart from Christ and the Cross): the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are Life (of the Holy Spirit Who gives Life by and through the Finished Work of Christ).” (John 6:63 JSESB)
The Power of God unto salvation comes through His spoken Word. Faith in – obedience to – His Word for each individual is what “obedience unto righteousness” and “mortify the deeds of the body” is all about. And of course that’s exactly how Jesus overcame the temptation of His Flesh after having fasted for forty (40) days in the wilderness:
“And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread. But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.” (Matthew 4:3-4 KJV)
“And when the tempter (Satan) came to Him, he said, If You be the Son of God (since You are the Son of God), command that these stones be made bread (Christ was tempted to use His Power for His Own benefit, which He was to never do). But He answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the Mouth of God ([Deut. 8:3]; man is a spiritual being as well as a physical being; therefore, dependent on God).” (Matthew 4:3-4 JSESB)
The preceding Scripture was an awesome opportunity for Jimmy Swaggart to “expostulate” on the Power of God’s spoken Word. But yet he made some watered-down comment that diminishes the Power of God’s Word. And, of course, the very good reason for it is that Jimmy Swaggart “evidences Faith in the Cross of Christ” instead of “faith in God’s Word”:
“Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth. As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world. And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth.” (John 17:17-19 KJV)
“Sanctify them through Your Truth (refers to the Word of God; it alone must ever be the criteria for all things): Your Word is Truth (means that the Bible does not merely contain Truth, but “is Truth”). As You have sent Me into the world (refers to the Commission which He carried out on the Cross), even so have I also sent them into the world (to preach and live the Cross [1 Cor. 1:18, 23; 2:2]). And for their sakes I Sanctify Myself (I separate Myself unto God in order to do His Will), that they also might be Sanctified through the Truth (no one can Sanctify one’s self; this is a work of the Holy Spirit, which is carried out as the Believer evidences Faith in the Cross of Christ [Rom. 8:1-2, 11]).” (John 17:17-19 JSESB)
Jesus “sanctified” Himself by “obeying” every word that proceedeth out of the Mouth of God. And He did it in order to prepare Himself – His Body – to be the Author of eternal salvation – “The Sanctifier” – unto all them that “obey” Him:
“Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered; And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him; Called of God an high priest after the order of Melchisedec.” (Hebrews 5:8-11 KJV)
“Though He were a Son (stresses Deity; but at the same time the role of Christ as “Son of Man”), yet learned He obedience (doesn’t mean He had to learn to obey, for that would mean He had sinned; it means He actively sought out the path of obedience, and then unfailingly walked therein) by the things which He suffered (concerned the entire course of His Life, but more so the Cross); And being made perfect (refers to being brought to the goal fixed by God, which had to be if He was going to be the Perfect Sacrifice), He became the Author of Eternal Salvation (proclaims a perfect Salvation, because He was and is the Perfect Redeemer, because He was the Perfect Sacrifice) unto all them who obey him (we obey Him by exhibiting Faith in the Cross, which then gives the Holy Spirit latitude to work; this Truth was given to Paul [Rom. 6:3-5, 11, 14; Gal. 1:11-12]); Called of God an High Priest (the Title is conferred on Him by God the Father) after the order of Melchisedec. (Christ was not to be a great High Priest merely for the Jews, but for the Gentiles as well; in order for this to be, His Priesthood would have to rest in something other than the Levitical Order; being after the Order of Melchisedec satisfied both demands, because Melchisedecpreceded Israel as a people [Gen. 14:18-20; Ps. 110:4].)” (Hebrews 5:8-11 JSESB)
Jimmy Swaggart has re-written the Holy Bible, God’s Word, in order to promote his abominable “Cross Worship”. Contrary to the Word of God, Jimmy Swaggart says that Jesus did not have to “learn to obey”. In fact he goes on to say that “we obey Him by exhibiting Faith in the Cross”. Cross Worship! How wrong you are, Jimmy Swaggart!
You see Jesus came to earth as the “Last Adam” in order to do what the “First Adam” failed to do: “learn obedience”. Without a doubt, the “First Adam” was created without sin, but yet it was through the process of “learning obedience” that he would have been transformed from the “natural man” into the “spiritual man”. If he had only obeyed every Word that proceedeth from the Mouth of God, the “fleshly” Adam would have died (been crucified through the things which he suffered in obedience to God’s Word), and the “spiritual” Adam would have come alive!
However, seeing how the “First Adam” failed to follow God’s procedure and “learn obedience”, it became the responsibility of the “Last Adam” to not only prove that it could be done, but, more importantly, to “learn obedience” and be made perfect so that He could become the author of eternal salvation unto all them that “obey” Him:
“Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.” (Philippians 2:5-8 KJV)
“Let this mind be in you (refers to the self-emptying of Christ), which was also in Christ Jesus (portrays Christ as the supreme example): Who, being in the form of God (refers to Deity, which Christ always was), thought it not robbery to be equal with God (equality with God refers here to our Lord’s co-participation with the other members of the Trinity in the expression of the Divine Essence): But made Himself of no reputation (instead of asserting His rights to the expression of the Essence of Deity, our Lord waived His rights to that expression), and took upon Him the form of a servant (a bondslave), and was made in the likeness of men (presents the Lord entering into a new state of Being when He became Man; but His becoming Man did not exclude His position of Deity; while in becoming Man, He laid aside the “expression” of Deity; He never lost “possession” of Deity): And being found in fashion as a man (denotes Christ in men’s eyes), He humbled Himself (He was brought low, but willingly), and became obedient unto death (does not mean He became obedient to death; He was always the Master of Death; rather, He subjected Himself to death), even the death of the cross. (This presents the character of His Death as one of disgrace and degradation, which was necessary for men to be redeemed. This type of death alone would pay the terrible sin debt, and do so in totality.)” (Philippians 2:5-8 JSESB)
Contrary to what the Word of God says, Jimmy Swaggart says that Jesus did not “become obedient unto death”. And, of course, Jimmy Swaggart’s statement only reinforces the fact that he doesn’t understand “Jesus Christ and Him crucified”. Because you see each and every time that Jesus “learned obedience” by “obeying the Word of the Father” He died to a part of His Flesh that would have become sin if He had not obeyed:
“For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.” (Hebrews 4:15 KJV)
“For we have not an High Priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities (being Very Man as well as Very God, He can do such); but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin (His temptation, and ours as well, was to leave the prescribed Will of God, which was the Word of God; but He never did, not even one time).” (Hebrews 4:15 JSESB)
Now isn’t that amazing! Jimmy Swaggart seems to have finally gotten it right! Jesus “sanctified” Himself by “obeying” every word that proceedeth out of the Mouth of God. Jesus knew the Power of God’s Word, and therefore He put His Faith in God’s Word:
“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. For by it the elders obtained a good report. Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.” (Hebrews 11:1-3 KJV)
“Now Faith is the substance (the title deed) of things hoped for (a declaration of the action of Faith), the evidence of things not seen. (Faith is not based upon the senses, which yield uncertainty; but rather on the Word of God.) For by it (by Faith, and as we shall see, it is Faith in the Cross) the Elders obtained a good report (the approval of the Lord). Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the Word of God (refers to Creation, along with everything that goes with Creation), so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear. (God began with nothing, thereby speaking into existence the things needed to create the universe.)” (Hebrews 11:1-3 KJV)
God’s Word, and the Power thereof! He spoke it all into existence – the universe and beyond – but yet the Power of God’s Word to deliver mankind “from sin unto salvation” can only be realized through a willing act of obedience to His Word. “Faith in His Word”, and not “Faith in the Cross”:
“Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” (John 8:31-32 KJV)
Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on Him (now presents a part of the Message upon which their Faith will falter; thus resides millions!), If you continue in My word, then are you My Disciples indeed (simply means that one has to believe all the Word, not just part, and then continue in that believing; regrettably, as the Parable of the Sower points out, many do not continue to believe; consequently this refutes the Unscriptural Doctrine of Unconditional Eternal Security); And you shall know the Truth, and the Truth shall make you free (this is the secret of all abundant Life in Christ; the “Truth” is “Jesus Christ and Him Crucified,” which alone is the answer to the problem of Man).” (John 8:31-32 JSESB)
The preceding Scripture is the definition that the Lord gave me for what the Holy Bible calls “the Law of Liberty”. And of course it’s only because of what Jesus accomplished on His Cross that mankind can receive the “liberating” promise that’s found in this “law”: “If ye continue in my word, ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” Because you see Jesus defeated all sin for all eternity through His “obedience” to the “Word of God” while here on earth. And it was only through the Holy Spirit that Jesus received the Word of God that He obeyed that likewise gave Him the victory on His cross.
The Holy Spirit is “Truth”… not “Jesus Christ and Him Crucified” as Jimmy Swaggart so erroneously proclaims.
“If ye love me, keep my commandments. And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.” (John 14:15-17 KJV)
“If ye love Me, keep My Commandments (His Commandments can be kept only in one way; the Believer must ever make Christ and the Cross the Object of his Faith, which will then give the Holy Spirit latitude to work within our lives and help us do these things which we must do). And I will pray the Father, and He shall give you another Comforter (“Parakletos;” which means “One called to the side of another to help”), that He may abide with you for ever (before the Cross, the Holy Spirit could only help a few individuals, and then only for a period of time; since the Cross, He lives in the hearts and lives of Believers, and does so forever) ; Even the Spirit of Truth (the Greek says, “The Spirit of the Truth,” which refers to the Word of God; actually, He does far more than merely superintend the attributes of Truth, as Christ “is Truth” [I Jn. 5:6]); Whom the world cannot receive (the Holy Spirit cannot come into the heart of the unbeliever until that person makes Christ his or her Saviour; then He comes in), because it sees Him not, neither knows Him (refers to the fact that only Born-again Believers can understand the Holy Spirit and know Him): but you know Him (would have been better translated, “But you shall get to know Him”); for He dwells with you (before the Cross), and shall be in you(which would take place on the Day of Pentecost and forward, because the sin debt has been forever paid by Christ on the Cross, changing the disposition of everything).” (John 14:15-17 JSESB)
The “Comforter” – the “Spirit of Truth” – is the “Holy Spirit” that now indwells all those who have accepted the “Perfect Sacrifice” of Jesus and likewise given Him complete control over their life by making Him their “Lord and Saviour”. And it’s this same Holy Spirit that will “speak” God’s commandments (the Word of the Lord) to the Believer that must be obeyed in order for the “Spirit of Truth” to become manifested in them. “The Truth” will make the Believer “free” from the bondage of sin, as the “natural man” becomes “spiritual man” through the Believer’s obedience to the Word of the Lord as communicated through the “Comforter”.
The object of the Believer’s faith must be the “Word of the Lord” as communicated by the Holy Spirit… not “Christ and the Cross” as Jimmy Swaggart so erroneously teaches.
In fact, to help out in this discussion on “the Truth shall make you free”, please allow me to share the following excerpt from our 4/21/02 sermonet – “ Jimmy Swaggart And His Spiritual Adultery!”:
*******************************
"And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots: And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD; And shall make him of quick understanding in the fear of the LORD: and he shall not judge after the sight of his eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of his ears: But with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth: and he shall smite the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked. And righteousness shall be the girdle of his loins, and faithfulness the girdle of his reins."
What we have just read concerning the "Seven Spirits of God" is a description of how Jesus’ Body was programmed by the Holy Spirit and made ready for His Victory over sin at the Cross. Jesus prepared His Body through the "Seven Spirits of God" to defeat sin in His Body at the Cross, whereas Believers overcome the sin-filled flesh in their bodies and likewise replace it with Righteousness and Life through the "Seven Spirits of God".
And looking at this Seven Step Process as it applies to us sin-filled Believers, the first step or function of the Holy Spirit — the Spirit of the LORD — is that of inviting the Holy Spirit to come inside us and clean us up from sin by taking control of our lives. The second step or function of the Holy Spirit — the Spirit of Wisdom — is the Word we will receive through the Holy Spirit that will direct our "walk in the Spirit" in order to clean up some of our sin-filled flesh. The third step or function of the Holy Spirit — the Spirit of Understanding — will give us an understandable true meaning of the Word of Wisdom as it applies to our life, and the forth step or function of the Holy Spirit — the Spirit of Counsel — will help us understand why we must obey this Word of Wisdom that’s making our flesh scream out in fear. And of course it’s the fifth step or function of the Holy Spirit — the Spirit of Might — that’s going to give us the strength to just do whatever the Word of Wisdom has instructed us to do... regardless of our screaming flesh... and come Hell or high water! Because it’s in the sixth step or function of the Holy Spirit — the Spirit of Knowledge — that Philippians 10:3 becomes a reality: "That I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death..." In other words the reason Jesus commands us to take up our cross and follow Him becomes very evident through this sixth and final step in the Baptismal Process.
That’s the way it works in the real world of "baptism". It’s called the "six step process" of dying to the flesh — and without a doubt it is one more gut-wrenching process, but it’s the only way it’s ever gonna happen. However, after all the pain and suffering of steps one (1) through six (6) comes the glory of step number seven (7). Because you see it’s the seventh function of the Holy Spirit — the Spirit of the Fear of the Lord — that reprograms a part of our body with "Righteousness and Life" after some of the sin-filled flesh has been eradicated. Glory!!!
*******************************
The “Seven Spirits Of God” are the “Word of God” in “Holy Spirit” form, becoming “Truth” in the Believer through the act of obedience:
“Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” (John 8:31-32 KJV)
“It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.” (John 6:63 KJV)
Jesus the “Last Adam” took on a human body in order to defeat sin through this “seven step process”. And with that in mind, please allow me to unlock some of the mystery of how this all takes place in the human body.
You see it was during my senior year at Clemson University, while finalizing a B.S. in Electrical And Computer Engineering, that I took a course in Behaviorial Psychology that would forever change my life. As the Lord would have it, there were two words that I learned in the course that burned into my memory: “olfactory epithelium”!
So what did it mean? What was God trying to tell me?
Well, I graduated in 1976, but it wasn’t until 1999 that the Lord finally started showing me why these two words – “olfactory epithelium” – were so important. And then he confirmed it through the following picture/article on the Internet:
How much Michelangelo actually understood about the oldfactory system, and it’s connection to the hypothalamus, only God knows. However, the Word of God is complete on it’s critical import:
“And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.” (Genesis 2:7 KJV)
“All the while my breath is in me, and the spirit of God is in my nostrils; My lips shall not speak wickedness, nor my tongue utter deceit.” (Job 27:3-4 KJV)
“And when he [Jesus] had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost: Whose soever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them; and whose soever sins ye retain, they are retained.” (John 20:22-23 KJV)
It’s all about the nose. We receive God’s touch – the knowledge of His Will (the Seven Spirits of God) – through the epithelial tissue inside the nasal cavity:
The olfactory system is one of the first nerve systems to develop completely in the human being. During the seventh week of gestation, the embryo develops remarkably. It is during this period of growth that the telecephalon (the most forward part of the embryonic brain) develops the olfactory lobes which ultimately produce the riencephalon (the lymbic lobes which process our olfactory senses)…From the olfactory bulbs, smell impulses bypass the thalamus (the sensory relay nucleus for all senses except olfaction) and travel directly to the olfactory cortex in the temporal lobe or to the limbic system (especially the hypothalamus)…The limbic system has two key components – the hypothalamus (below the thalamus) and the pituitary gland. The hypothalamus is considered a nodal point in the pathways mediating autonomic, emotional, endocrine, and somatic functions. The hypothalamus regulates eating, drinking, sex, emotions (rage, fear, and extreme anxiety), waking, sleeping, body temperature, balance and many other functions. Through a combination of electrical and chemical messages, it directs the pituitary gland – the master gland of the body.
The hypothalamus is the God-center in our brain, whereas the thalamus deals with the things of the flesh (the five senses). Our brain receives inputs from both, and the brain stem allows us to choose which one we will follow.
“It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.” (John 6:63 KJV)
So, with all that in mind we can now get back to our discussion of the “Jimmy Swaggart Expositor’s Study Bible” and “there remaineth one sacrifice for sin”:
“And when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also, he said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.” (Mark 8:34-35 KJV)
“And when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also, he said unto them (speaks of an interval of some period of time between His rebuke of Peter in this present statement), Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself (deny his own strength, ability, talent, power, and carnal intellect), and take up his cross (not suffering as many suppose, but rather the benefit of the Cross), and follow me (implying that Jesus cannot be followed, unless it’s by the way of the Cross.).” (Mark 8:34 JSESB)
Years ago the Lord gave Jimmy Swaggart his “revelation on the cross”, and it was all about the “suffering” Jimmy Swaggart must do in “obedience” to His Word, but Jimmy Swaggart really didn’t want to hear it. So Jimmy Swaggart came up with another “gospel”: “not suffering as many suppose, but rather the benefit of the Cross”!
“And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.” (Luke 9:23 KJV)
“And He said to them all, If any man will come after Me (the criteria for Discipleship), let him deny himself (not asceticism as many think, but rather that one denies one’s own willpower, self-will, strength, and ability, depending totally on Christ), and take up his cross (the benefits of the Cross, looking exclusively to what Jesus did there to meet our every need) daily (this is so important, our looking to the Cross; that we must renew our Faith in what Christ has done for us, even on a daily basis, for Satan will ever try to move us away from the Cross as the object of our Faith, which always spells disaster), and follow Me (Christ can be followed only by the Believer looking to the Cross, understanding what it accomplished, and by that means alone [Rom. 6:3-5, 11, 14; 8:1-2, 11; 1 Cor. 1:17, 18, 21, 23; 2:2; Gal. 6:14; Eph. 2:13-18; Col. 2:14-15]).” (Luke 9:23 JSESB)
The Jimmy Swaggart “gospel” teaches “Faith in the Cross of Christ” that denies “the cross” that Christ has chosen for each Believer to carry. Jimmy Swaggart is “an enemy of the cross of Christ”:
“Brethren, be followers together of me, and mark them which walk so as ye have us for an ensample. (For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ: Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.)” (Philippians 3:17-19 KJV)
Jimmy Swaggart’s “gospel” is not the “Word of God”. Jimmy Swaggart’s “gospel” denies the “sacrifice” that every Believer must become in order to be born of His Spirit – “there remaineth one sacrifice for sin”!
Jimmy Swaggart worships “The Cross”, but yet it’s only through obedience to “God’s Word” that he can be saved.
Jimmy Swaggart: WHAT A MESS!!!
“ Jimmy Swaggart Expositor's Study Bible: THE LIE From SATAN!”
Please pray for the convicting Power of the Holy Spirit to move on Jimmy Swaggart… and not only for his sake, but for all those who are trusting in him for their salvation.
What more can I say? “Keep on keeping the faith in Jesus!!!”
Love,
Dad (Bruce Hallman)
