The following letter-form was brought about as a means of teaching my children the Word of God through the mail. And of course, quite naturally so, that’s the reason I begin these letters with "Dear Children" and end them with "Love Dad". So for the rest of you who participate in these weekly messages, please keep their original intended purpose in mind.
Dear Children,
With great trepidation and sorrow, I write this message in obedience to the Father as a warning to The Church:
“But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.” (1 Corinthians 9:27 KJV)
“Many commit suicide in a speeding car - purposely driven out of control.” – David Wilkerson (4/1/78) [Hundreds Saved From Suicide]
You see today’s sermonet is entitled “David Wilkerson Lost His Song!”, and it’s all about one of the more influential apostles/prophets/evangelists/pastors/teachers of this era. He was the author of the well-known book “The Cross and the Switchblade”, founder of the addiction recovery program Teen Challenge, and founding pastor of the non-denominational Times Square Church in New York City. In fact, unlike many of his contemporaries who embraced the “word of faith” and “prosperity gospel” message, David Wilkerson condemned their “false gospel” without denying the fact that God still performs miracles and answers prayers. He preached a message of God’s love, God’s judgment, and the absolute necessity for one’s rigorous persuit of personal holiness. But then on the 27th of April 2011, at approximately 1:00 in the afternoon, David Wilkerson committed self-murder (suicide).

Now I cannot even imagine the pain his family has had to endure since his death, and it’s certainly not my intention to put them through any additional suffering. However, the Lord has shown me His Truth concerning David Wilkerson’s death and I must speak what He’s given me in order to remove the shroud (pretentious religious covering) that’s being used to hide the truth from his faithful followers:
Suicide - No special law is found against this crime, for it is included in the prohibition against killing. Contrary to the practice and the philosophy of paganism, the act was held in deep abhorrence by the Hebrews because of the high value placed on human life. It was held inexcusable that any but the most degraded and satanic should lay hands on their own lives. Only the remorse of the damned could drive one to it, as witness Saul (1Sa_31:4) and Judas (Mat_27:5). (International Standard Bible Encyclopedia)
“To exalt the persons of self-murders to heaven is an evil and dangerous practice.” – Increase Mather (1723)
You see there is only one way to address this issue of suicide, and that’s “head on!” In fact Isaac Watts – the English hymn-writer, theologian, and logician – had the folllowing to say about it in his treatise “A Defence Against the Temptation to Self-Murder”:
“What is there (that) casts a greater blot upon the name of any man, so long as his memory lives in the world, than to say, he hanged or drowned, he poisoned or stabbed himself? This is a stain (that) shall never be wiped away: And when thou risest out of thy grave, at the last day, thou shalt arise to everlasting shame and contempt. Besides all thy other sins, this shall be published before angels and men, that thou wert guilty of the most unnatural wickedness in the world. What a senseless practice is it for men to bring upon them-selves eternal shame and confusion only for this end, that they may escape what is temporal?”
What a horrifying thing to say about someone so revered as David Wilkerson! But yet it must be said. And the following news brief was “in the beginning” of me having to say it:
Times Square Church founder dies in Texas crash
April 27, 2011
DALLAS, Texas (AP) — Rev. David Wilkerson, founding pastor of Times Square Church in New York City and author of the best-selling book, "The Cross and the Switchblade," has died. He was 79.
Wilkerson died Wednesday afternoon in a car accident in East Texas, Texas Department of Public Safety spokeswoman Tela Mange said. Wilkerson's car smashed head-on into a tractor-trailer rig after veering into oncoming traffic on U.S. 175 west of Cuney, about 95 miles southeast of Dallas, Mange said… Wilkerson was not wearing a seat-belt at the time of the crash, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety. His wife, Gwendolyn, was also in the car and was wearing a seat-belt, Mange said. She was taken to a hospital, where she was in stable condition with cuts and bruises, Mange said.
You see it was only hours after receiving the news that David Wilkerson’s died in a head-on collision after his car veered into oncoming traffic, that the Lord told me “suicide”. But then the Lord sent me searching. And what I found was the above news report stating that he was not wearing a seatbelt… but his wife was.
“Suicide”, God said. And it all goes back to the following Internet posting that David Wilkerson made only hours before his death:
WHEN ALL MEANS FAIL -David Wilkerson (April 27)
To believe when all means fail is exceedingly pleasing to God and is most acceptable. Jesus said to Thomas, “You have believed because you have seen, but blessed are those that do believe and have not seen” (John 20:29).
Blessed are those who believe when there is no evidence of an answer to prayer - who trust beyond hope when all means have failed.
Someone has come to the place of hopelessness - the end of hope - the end of all means. A loved one is facing death and doctors give no hope. Death seems inevitable. Hope is gone. The miracle prayed for is not happening.
That is when Satan’s hordes come to attack your mind with fear, anger, overwhelming questions: “Where is your God now? You prayed until you had no tears left. You fasted. You stood on promises. You trusted.”
Blasphemous thoughts will be injected into your mind: “Prayer failed. Faith failed. Don’t quit on God - just do not trust him anymore. It doesn’t pay!”
Even questioning God’s existence will be injected into your mind. These have been the devices of Satan for centuries. Some of the godliest men and women who ever lived were under such demonic attacks.
To those going through the valley and shadow of death, hear this word: Weeping will last through some dark, awful nights…and in that darkness you will soon hear the Father whisper, “I am with you. I cannot tell you why right now, but one day it will all make sense. You will see it was all part of my plan. It was no accident. It was no failure on your part. Hold fast. Let me embrace you in your hour of pain.”
Beloved, God has never failed to act but in goodness and love. When all means fail…his love prevails. Hold fast to your faith. Stand fast in his Word. There is no other hope in this world.
Now there are many different ways that “When All Means Fail” can be interpreted, but the facts are that David Wilkerson was despondent over the many troubling circumstances that had come about in his life. And it was through the leading of the Holy Spirit that I came across the following additional information from Padre Steve [http://padresteve.wordpress.com/2011/04/28/the-unexplained-and-tragic-death-of-david-wilkerson/]:
“According to one of Wilkerson’s co-workers he was going through a very difficult time with his own cancer, recurring cancer in his wife, both of his daughters and the death of a young granddaughter from a malignant brain tumor in 2005. Another commenter on this post hinted that there were things going on at the church that he founded in Times Square which he no-longer pastored that caused him grief.”
God Almighty not only told me, but He also showed me that David Wilkerson committed suicide… and oh how it grieved my soul! I was having a very difficult time dealing with it! I mean how could such an unbelievable thing happen to this “man of compassion” who gave his life to minister to those that the church had ignored and condemned: the gang members, the criminals, the drug abusers, the prostitutes, the homosexuals, and the youth who lived on the edge of society. How could it be?
Well, on the 2nd of May 2011, in the early morning hours while in prayer, the Lord gave me the answer to my question:
“This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.” (Galatians 5:16 KJV)
What a very simple answer to such a very complex question. David Wilkerson had a problem with “the flesh”. But that was only the beginning. Because the Lord then directed me to two of David Wilkerson’s sermons: “Don’t Lose Your Song” and “Christians In Name Only”.
Now letting the truth be known, I love to hear David Wilkerson preach and have many of his sermons on audio! I mean nobody can preach like David Wilkerson! But yet there were some things he preached in his sermons that I knew weren’t from God. In fact when I listened to those two sermons – “Don’t Lose Your Song” and “Christians In Name Only” – the Holy Ghost alarms went off in my head. And as we are about to discover, there was a very good reason for it!
- Don’t Lose Your Song –
(Download MP3)
David Wilkerson preached “Don’t Lose Your Song” at Times Square Church on the 29th of December 2002. And the Text for his message was taken from the book of Revelation, chapter 14:
“And I looked, and, lo, a Lamb stood on the mount Sion, and with him an hundred forty and four thousand, having his Father's name written in their foreheads. And I heard a voice from heaven, as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of a great thunder: and I heard the voice of harpers harping with their harps: And they sung as it were a new song before the throne, and before the four beasts, and the elders: and no man could learn that song but the hundred and forty and four thousand, which were redeemed from the earth. These are they which were not defiled with women; for they are virgins. These are they which follow the Lamb whithersoever he goeth. These were redeemed from among men, being the firstfruits unto God and to the Lamb. And in their mouth was found no guile: for they are without fault before the throne of God.” (Revelation 14:1-5 KJV)
So that was David Wilkerson’s opening Scripture, and this is what he had to say about it:
“The hundred and forty-four thousand is a figure of speech… It simply means ‘innumerable numbers’… I see this clearly as the saints of God before the throne. What a sight! That great redeemed multitude that had been given harps…I don’t know how it happens that we’re going to be given harps and stringed instruments… I believe it’s going to be one of the most incredible moments. I’m going to be there… and this is going to be a praise meeting around the throne of God! We’re going to see Him as He is… This song has to be learned, not by angels – they’ve never been tested; they’ve never been tried.”
Now what’s wrong with that picture? Do you see a problem with David Wilkerson’s claim that he was going to be one of the “hundred and forty-four thousand” which he says is actually a “figure of speech” for “innumerable numbers” and not really the “hundred and forty-four thousand”? Well, let me help you out. Because seven (7) chapters earlier we find the following detailed description of just who those “hundred and forty-four thousand” really are… and David Wilkerson was certainly not going to be one of them:
“And after these things I saw four angels standing on the four corners of the earth, holding the four winds of the earth, that the wind should not blow on the earth, nor on the sea, nor on any tree. And I saw another angel ascending from the east, having the seal of the living God: and he cried with a loud voice to the four angels, to whom it was given to hurt the earth and the sea, Saying, Hurt not the earth, neither the sea, nor the trees, till we have sealed the servants of our God in their foreheads. And I heard the number of them which were sealed: and there were sealed an hundred and forty and four thousand of all the tribes of the children of Israel. Of the tribe of Juda were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Reuben were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Gad were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Aser were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Nepthalim were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Manasses were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Simeon were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Levi were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Issachar were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Zabulon were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Joseph were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Benjamin were sealed twelve thousand.” (Revelation 7:1-8 KJV)
So are you starting to see a problem with David Wilkerson’s eschatology (a study of the End Times)? God’s Word is very clear about the “hundred and forty and four thousand” being the “twelve thousand” from each of the “twelve tribes” of Jacob (Israel) who sing a “new song” in Heaven after having been saved on earth during the first three and a-half (3 1/2) years of the seven (7) year “Tribulation” period. I mean, after all, a more accurate name for “The Tribulation” is “Jacob’s Trouble” – God designed it specifically for the Jewish people:
“And these are the words that the LORD spake concerning Israel and concerning Judah. For thus saith the LORD; We have heard a voice of trembling, of fear, and not of peace. Ask ye now, and see whether a man doth travail with child? wherefore do I see every man with his hands on his loins, as a woman in travail, and all faces are turned into paleness? Alas! for that day is great, so that none is like it: it is even the time of Jacob's trouble; but he shall be saved out of it. For it shall come to pass in that day, saith the LORD of hosts, that I will break his yoke from off thy neck, and will burst thy bonds, and strangers shall no more serve themselves of him: But they shall serve the LORD their God, and David their king, whom I will raise up unto them.” (Jeremiah 30:4-9 KJV)
“For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be. And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened.” (Matthew 24:21-22 KJV)
You see for the most part, the Jewish people (God’s chosen people) are in total rebellion to God’s salvation plan:
“Ye stiffnecked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, ye do always resist the Holy Ghost: as your fathers did, so do ye.” (Acts 7:51 KJV)
Satan’s “yoke of sin” is well established around the neck of the Jewish people, and the only way it’s going to be broken is through the extreme pressure that they will experience at the hands of the Antichrist during the time of “Jacobs Troubles”.
But getting back to David Wilkerson and his “Don’t Lose Your Song”, even though he was dead wrong about the “hundred and forty and four thousand”, he was right-on about the “song” they will sing In fact this is what he had to say about it:
“Folk you can talk about testifying for Jesus, you can talk about going out and passing out tracts and witnessing, but let me tell you where the real testimony is: it is right here, the very thing I’m talking about now. When you in your deepest trial and in your crises, when everything looks black, and there’s nothing but rain and thunder, you’re going through the time and crises of your life, the testimony is that you maintain. You have learned and practiced the song. And how can it be learned except by trial? They’ve learned the song of the faithfulness of Almighty God!… Ah, folks, be careful how you react in your time – your sorrow, anguish, crises. Be very, very careful how you speak… Maintain that song. God is faithful. God knows what He’s doing! God has everything under control! My part is to trust that… You need to be practicing right now, in every test that you’re going through now. Learn the lesson. Learn the song. And when you have that song, no matter what happens, no matter what comes, to you or anyone around you, you’ll have the song. And you’ll sing it right through till you get to the throne, and there you’ll sing it in it’s glory and all it’s fullness. Glory be to God…”
And with the “song” in mind, please allow me to put it into proper prospective with the Jewish people and the “hundred and forty and four thousand” who will sing it as prophesied in Revelation chapter 14. Because you see in Revelation 4:1 the true Believers in Christ have left this world for Heaven… and the unbelieving Jews have gotten left behind as the wrath of God is poured out through the “seven seals judgment” that begins in Revelation 6:1. However, before the final unimaginable horror of the “seventh seal judgment” with it’s “seven trumpets judgment” is poured out on the earth, the “hundred and forty and four thousand” Jews see the Light, receive Jesus as their Lord and Saviour, and take God’s seal of protection in their foreheads (Revelation chapter 7). From that point on, until the “hundred and forty and four thousand” are translated to Heaven in Revelation chapter 14, they are protected from God’s judgments on the earth and martyrdom at the hands of the “Great Whore” of Revelation 17:6.
So, it should be abundantly obvious that the Jewish people – the “hundred and forty and four thousand” – are going to go through some extremely tough times after having given their lives to Jesus. But as all Hell breaks lose around them, they will see the Hand of God working on their behalf as they learn the “song” that will give glory to God when they stand before Him in Heaven.
And now let’s see what words of encouragement David Wilkerson gave in the closing of his message – “Don’t Lose Your Song”:
“I’m going to close with this thought. It may sound negative but it has to be said. You think for one moment that you can be here on earth as one of His children, and murmur, and complain, get bitter and angry at God?… How can we conceive in our mind that we can live here on earth without confidence in Him, without resting in Him, without learning His faithfulness, and without asking the Holy Ghost for the power and the strength to sing the song in hard times. You think for a moment that you’re going to have it when you get there? You haven’t learned it. He said the only ones that can sing it are those who learned it on earth!… I woke up a day or so ago, in the morning, and I just bellowed out of my heart, “God, when’s this nightmare end?” And God in His love, “Be very careful now, how you respond, be careful what you say. I love you, and I know your hurt, and I know your pain, but I’m God.”
Years ago I told you that when Debi was, er Bonnie was in the room by herself – cancer, cobalt treatments – I went out on a country road and for two (2) hours I screamed at God. I wasn’t mad at Him, I just said I wanted some answers. First Brandon, then Debi, then Bonnie – and I was just asking God if He was mad at me. For two (2) hours, after all the tears had gone and everything… when I was all cried out God in His love spoke so clear, way out on a country road almost in Mexico, near El Paso, the Holy Spirit said, “David, Bonnie has two fathers; you and me. Which one loves us the most?” I said, “You do.” “David, Bonnie has two fathers, you and me. Which one will do what is right for her and for you?” I said, “You.” “There’s two fathers David, which one of us holds her in the palm of the hand; you or me? You want to hold her? Now if you want to take it in your hand you can do it, but it’ll bring you nothing but despair. You’ll never have joy. And I want you to turn Gwen, and Debi, Bonnie, all your children, all your grandchildren, just put them in My Hand. And I want you to trust Me no matter what. And I want you to know that if they are in My Hands, whatever I do I have purpose. I have a plan, and just as Jesus said to Peter: ‘What I do now you know not, but hereafter you shall know.’” Said, “One day you’ll know it. When you know it you’ll rejoice, but you’ll rejoice even more because you know that you trusted Me though you didn’t understand.”… Folks, I want to tell you, God’s faithful. Whatever comes to us, He’s gonna give you everything you need in the way of strength, and rest, and peace, and confidence in Him. Don’t lose your song. That’s your testimony.”
Now it shouldn‘t be too hard to see that God Almighty was preaching to the preacher (David Wilkerson) through that particular message… and it was a very serious warning at that: “Don’t Lose Your Song”.
So after having heard the hard facts through David Wilkerson’s own true confessions, I understood what God was telling me: David Wilkerson “lost his song”. And with that in mind I went to prayer once again… but instead of the “how”, I now asked “why” did David Wilkerson have to die in such a tragic way? And on the 9th of May 2011, during the early morning hours while in prayer, this is what the Lord gave to me:
“And Balak said unto Balaam, What hast thou done unto me? I took thee to curse mine enemies, and, behold, thou hast blessed them altogether. And he answered and said, Must I not take heed to speak that which the LORD hath put in my mouth?” (Numbers 23:11-12 KJV)
- Christians In Name Only –
(Download MP3)
So just what in the world did it all mean? What was God trying to tell me? Well, I didn’t have a clue… that is until I listened once again to the second sermon on God’s list – “Christians In Name Only”. And this is a portion of what David Wilkerson had to say:
“There are people here that call themselves Christians that are not going to heaven. They’re going to be lost. It’s that plain and that simple… I feel the greatest grief of God right now when I pray is the grief over so many becoming foolish virgins. Those who were once wise, those who have been preparing, those who were diligent, somehow getting caught up with the spirit of this age, somehow allowing them to drift away from Jesus Christ… a Christian in name only… There are going to be many, many people lost even though God loved them because He’s a God of justice, He’s a God of holiness, He’s a God of righteousness. Nobody believes He loves sinners more than I do. But even though He turned Israel when Balaam mocked and said, “I see no fault”, those were the same people who died in the wilderness. They died in the wilderness, because it was in name only. Their hearts had never been changed. God still loved them.”
The Text of his message was from Matthew 25:1-13 – the parable of The Ten Virgins. And of course it was the five (5) foolish virgins that were the examples David Wilkerson used for the “Christians In Name Only”. However, it was right about the time he said what he said about “Balaam” that the Lord brought back to mind His Scripture to me (Numbers 23:11-12). I mean it really blew me away that Wilkerson would have even mentioned Balaam in the context of his message. But he did! So just what was God trying to tell me? What did this have to do with my question of “why did David Wilkerson have to die in such a tragic way?”
Well, the truth of the matter is that Balaam was a prophet called of God, but he wanted to use his gift to promote his own selfish desires. In other words, Balaam was a very gifted prophet turned “false prophet”, and King Balak decided to take advantage of the situation. In fact King Balak offered Balaam a nice chunk of change to curse God’s chosen people. But try as he might, the only words that would come out of Balaam’s mouth concerning the nation of Israel were God’s Words of “blessings”… not “curses”. I mean, after all, the Almighty did an even greater miracle in Balaam’s donkey by making it speak prophetically!
But getting back to David Wilkerson’s statement – “But even though He turned Israel when Balaam mocked and said, “I see no fault”, those were the same people who died in the wilderness. They died in the wilderness, because it was in name only. Their hearts had never been changed.” – let’s see what Joshua had to say about that Jewish situation quite a few years later:
“Then Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab, arose and warred against Israel, and sent and called Balaam the son of Beor to curse you: But I would not hearken unto Balaam; therefore he blessed you still: so I delivered you out of his hand. And ye went over Jordan, and came unto Jericho: and the men of Jericho fought against you, the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Girgashites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites; and I delivered them into your hand. And I sent the hornet before you, which drave them out from before you, even the two kings of the Amorites; but not with thy sword, nor with thy bow. And I have given you a land for which ye did not labour, and cities which ye built not, and ye dwell in them; of the vineyards and oliveyards which ye planted not do ye eat. Now therefore fear the LORD, and serve him in sincerity and in truth: and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the flood, and in Egypt; and serve ye the LORD.” (Joshua 24:9-14 KJV)
Now there’s no doubting the fact that Balaam’s heart was not into the “blessings of God” that the Almighty used his mouth to speak concerning the nation of Israel. However, as we have just read, it was those same “blessings” that took the nation of Israel on into the “promised land” to receive their inheritance. And even though there were quite a few of those Jews who did “die in the wilderness”, there were lots more of them under the age of twenty (20) that likewise received the “blessings of Balaam” and made it on in:
“And the LORD'S anger was kindled the same time, and he sware, saying, Surely none of the men that came up out of Egypt, from twenty years old and upward, shall see the land which I sware unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob; because they have not wholly followed me: Save Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenezite, and Joshua the son of Nun: for they have wholly followed the LORD.” (Numbers 32:10-12 KJV)
So Caleb, Joshua, and all those under the age of twenty (20) that came out of Egypt got blessed! And it’s David Wilkerson’s statement concerning Balaam and the Jews that smacks of anti-Semitism. I mean, after all, he did use “replacement theology” to exclude them as the “hundred and forty and four thousand” in chapter 14 of Revelation.
But that’s not all! Because David Wilkerson goes on to make the following anti-Semitic statement in his “Christians In Name Only” message:
“But you see, in that day, when you get to chapter 4, in chapter 4 is a continuation of chapter 3. This is what you read: And in that day, when God begins to judge, in that day of immorality, 7 women shall take hold of one man, saying, we will eat our own bread, we’ll wear our own apparel, only let us be called by thy name to take away our reproach. Now this is an amazing thing because this man is Jesus. I believe Isaiah is talking about Jesus. In that day, in the time of turmoil, there going to be people, there’s going to be a certain kind of Christian who’s going to try and have a marriage of convenience with Christ. A marriage of convenience; there’s no love, no courtship mentioned, not a word of forsaking all others, not one word about faithfulness, not a mention of the marriage bed, no talk about engagement, no talk about intimacy…”
Now what you have just read is a continuation of David Wilkerson’s “replacement theology” as he uses the Holy Word of God to say something that is absolutely not true. But please allow me to explain.
To start with, the Scripture in Isaiah chapter 4 is not “a continuation” of Isaiah chapter 3 as David Wilkerson has stated. There is a chapter break between the two for a very good reason. Because this is the ending of chapter 3:
“Thy men shall fall by the sword, and thy mighty in the war. And her gates shall lament and mourn; and she being desolate shall sit upon the ground.” (Isaiah 3:25-26 KJV)
Those were the last two (2) verses in chapter 3 of Isaiah, and the following from the book of Zechariah will give us more information on what was actually taking place:
“And it shall come to pass, that in all the land, saith the LORD, two parts therein shall be cut off and die; but the third shall be left therein. And I will bring the third part through the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will try them as gold is tried: they shall call on my name, and I will hear them: I will say, It is my people: and they shall say, The LORD is my God.” (Zechariah 13:8-9 KJV)
You see those two Scriptures from Isaiah and Zechariah are all about “Jacob’s Trouble” – “The Tribulation!” And of course that’s exactly what it’s going to take to break the “yoke of sin” that’s around the necks of God’s chosen people – the Jews – and bring them back into a right relationship with Him. Two-thirds of the Jewish people will be annihilated during the seven (7) year period of God’s wrath upon the earth… and the greater number of those will be of the male gender. God will annihilate the rebellious Jews – two-thirds of them – so that the remaining can finally say, “The LORD is my God!” And contrary to what David Wilkerson preached in “Christians In Name Only”, that’s exactly what has taken place by the ending of Isaiah chapter 3.
And with that in mind, let’s pick it back up in Isaiah chapter 4 as the newly transformed (saved) Jewish women honor God with their lives:
“And in that day seven women shall take hold of one man, saying, We will eat our own bread, and wear our own apparel: only let us be called by thy name, to take away our reproach. In that day shall the branch of the LORD be beautiful and glorious, and the fruit of the earth shall be excellent and comely for them that are escaped of Israel.” (Isaiah 4:1-2 KJV)
Now in order to properly understand what’s actually taking place in the preceding Scripture, we’re going to use another Scripture to define the Jewish-ness of the expression “let us be called by thy name, to take away our reproach”:
“And God remembered Rachel, and God hearkened to her, and opened her womb. And she conceived, and bare a son; and said, God hath taken away my reproach: And she called his name Joseph; and said, The LORD shall add to me another son.” (Genesis 30:22-24 KJV)
You see in chapters 29 thru 30 of Genesis we discover the way in which God brought about His “chosen people” – the Jewish nation – through the twelve (12) sons of Jacob (Israel). In fact the preceding Scripture gives the details of what took place when Jacob – the son of Isaac, the son of Abraham – fathered son “#11” through wife #2. Rachel, the love of Jacob’s life, gave birth to her first son “Joseph” whose name means, “increase”… as in children. And approximately twelve (12) years later she would give birth to son #12 – “Benjamin” – before losing her own life in childbirth.
“Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward. As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth. Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate.” (Psalms 127:3-5 KJV)
Rachel was considered to be a “reproach” (a disgrace) to her husband until the time that she was able to give birth to their first son. The Jewish women were very much aware of the fact that it was their duty to honor God through the birthing of many children. God designed marriage to be much more than a man and a woman choosing to share their lives together because of their feelings for each other.
In fact the Good Lord saw to it that Jacob was tricked into first marrying Rachel’s sister, Leah. And even though Jacob had no love for Leah, God knew how to change his heart:
“And when the LORD saw that Leah was hated, he opened her womb: but Rachel was barren. And Leah conceived, and bare a son, and she called his name Reuben: for she said, Surely the LORD hath looked upon my affliction; now therefore my husband will love me.” (Genesis 29:31-32 KJV)
Well it wasn’t until a week or so after Jacob’s marriage to Leah that he finally got the one he was so passionately in love with: Rachel. And even though Leah was not the one chosen by Jacob to be his wife, the Lord used her to give birth to six (6) of the twelve (12) sons of Jacob.
“And when Rachel saw that she bare Jacob no children, Rachel envied her sister; and said unto Jacob, Give me children, or else I die. And Jacob's anger was kindled against Rachel: and he said, Am I in God's stead, who hath withheld from thee the fruit of the womb?” (Genesis 30:1-2 KJV)
A God designed marriage is much more than a man and a woman choosing to share their lives together! It’s all about producing godly children for the glory of God:
“And all the people that were in the gate, and the elders, said, We are witnesses. The LORD make the woman that is come into thine house like Rachel and like Leah, which two did build the house of Israel: and do thou worthily in Ephratah, and be famous in Bethlehem:” (Ruth 4:11 KJV)
Rachel and Leah honored God through their marriage to Jacob. It was God’s divine plan. They built the house of Israel through the twelve (12) sons of Jacob… and that’s what a godly marriage is all about!
The admonition of 1Co_7:39 to marry "only in the Lord," recalls many similar Rabbinical warnings, from which we select the most striking. Men, we are told (Yalkut on Deu_21:15), are wont to marry for one of four reasons--for passion, wealth, honour, or the glory of God. As for the first-named class of marriages, their issue must be expected to be "stubborn and rebellious" sons… In regard to marriages for wealth, we are to learn a lesson from the sons of Eli, who sought to enrich themselves in such manner, but of whose posterity it was said (1Sa_2:36) that they should "crouch for a piece of silver and a morsel of bread." Of marriages for the sake of connection, honour, and influence, King Jehoram offered a warning, who became King Ahab's son-in-law, because that monarch had seventy sons, whereas upon his death his widow Athaliah "arose and destroyed all the seed royal" (2Ki_11:1). But far otherwise is it in case of marriage "in the name of heaven." The issue of such will be children who "preserve Israel." (Sketches Of Jewish Social Life)
And with that in mind we can return to our discussion of “seven women taking hold of one man in order to be called by his name to take away their reproach”. Because you see those same Jewish women, who had a true born-again transformation during the time of “Jacob’s Trouble”, are now ready to please their God by “preserving Israel” as they give birth to the children that will repopulate the earth during the millennium reign of their beloved Messiah.
“In that day shall the branch of the LORD be beautiful and glorious, and the fruit of the earth shall be excellent and comely for them that are escaped of Israel.” (Isaiah 4:2 KJV)
David Wilkerson was wrong – very wrong! The “branch of the Lord” is all those who honor Him with their lives… such as the seven (7) Jewish women that take hold of one man and produce much fruit:
“I [Jesus] am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.” (John 15:5 KJV)
“So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.” (Genesis 1:27-28 KJV)
The Bible, the Holy Word of God, is very Jewish! So why would David Wilkerson try to take the Jewish-ness out of it? Well, the answer is very simple but sad:
“And Balak said unto Balaam, What hast thou done unto me? I took thee to curse mine enemies, and, behold, thou hast blessed them altogether. And he answered and said, Must I not take heed to speak that which the LORD hath put in my mouth?” (Numbers 23:11-12 KJV)
Balaam spoke great blessings from God concerning the Jewish people, and even though his heart was not right before God. David Wilkerson also had unforgiveness in his heart towards the Jewish people. And at times he spoke encouraging words for the Jews, but yet they were Words from God and not from his own heart.
“And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.” (Genesis 12:3 KJV)
Unforgiveness is a terrible sin… and it spreads like a plague! In fact it was back in 2001 that the Lord sent me on assignment to minister to a minister by the name of Fred Stephens. Pastor Stephens was very gifted in the prophetic, much like David Wilkerson, and he could preach! I mean, I was truly blessed by being able to attend his services at Christ Living Word Church during the time that the Lord allowed. However, what I soon discovered was that Pastor Stephens was a devoted follower of David Wilkerson, and he, just as David Wilkerson, had the sin of unforgiveness in his life. And the sad fact is that Pastor Stephen’s sin of unforgiveness had been exposed by the time my mission with him had ended, but he also chose to keep it. Unforgiveness: what a terrible sin!
In fact there was one more similarity between David Wilkerson and Fred Stephens that the Lord wants me to mention. You see it was because of Fred Stephen’s sin of unforgiveness that the Lord kept showing him, just like he did David Wilkerson, some very rough times that he was going through in the future. And of course the horrors that the Lord was showing him were none other than a “taste” of what he would experience during “The Tribulation” if he didn’t get right with God by getting rid of his sins. (See “Pastor Stephens And The Rejected Word From God!” and “Tribulation Horror Show!” for more on the subject.)
So with all that in mind, here are David Wilkerson’s closing comments from his message “Christians In Name Only”:
“You see there will be this cry, “Our lamps have gone out!” They’re not in the resources to face what is coming. Their hearts, Jesus said, will fail them for fear. And they’re going to run to Christians, they’re going to run to pastors saying, “What do I do, what do I do?” And you see the whole thing is… there’s not going to be time to build your Christian character, there’s not going to be time to build the spiritual resources, you’re not going to have the time. Our lamps have gone out! We’re empty! We’re dry!”
On April the 27th 2011, David Wilkerson’s “lamp had gone out”! And even though he had the terrible sin problem of unforgiveness towards the Jewish people, the sin problem that really took him under was his love for his family:
“If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.” (Luke 14:26 KJV)
David Wilkerson loved his family more than he did God… and he proved it time and time again… and even though God gave him the opportunity to change.
“Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation [afflicted, anguish, burdened, trouble] , or distress [narrowness of room, calamity], or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?” (Romans 8:35 KJV)
David Wilkerson “lost his song” during his “time of testing”. David Wilkerson turned out to be “a Christian in name only”.
And with that in mind, here’s one last quote from Isaac Watts’ “A Defence Against the Temptation to Self-Murder”:
“Can a soldier who is fixed in his post, though it rain and blow at midnight, forsake his guard before his General permits (him to)? Can such a faithless sentinel expect anything but frowns and death from his General? Is it excuse enough to say, ‘I broke the orders of my superior because it rained?’ What a piece of shameful cowardice is this? And dares a soul that is placed by its Creator to act in a human body dismiss itself, and fly from its appointed station, as far as the distance of two worlds, and yet hope for approbation? Dares such a soul run from its post, into the immediate presence of its sovereign Lord, in the world of spirits, and say, ‘I have fled from my post because I found it troublesome, I have done it indeed without leave, and yet I expect a reward’? May not such a wretch rather justly expect to be banished for ever from the presence of his Maker, and be doomed to suffer eternal penalties without mercy and without hope?”
What a tragic ending for such a gifted minister of the gospel! He preached it, but he didn’t heed the Word:

My Utmost For His Highest – Oswald Chambers
The Explanation For Our Difficulties - May 22 2011
. . . that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us . . . —John 17:21
If you are going through a time of isolation, seemingly all alone, read John 17 . It will explain exactly why you are where you are— because Jesus has prayed that you “may be one” with the Father as He is. Are you helping God to answer that prayer, or do you have some other goal for your life? Since you became a disciple, you cannot be as independent as you used to be.
God reveals in John 17 that His purpose is not just to answer our prayers, but that through prayer we might come to discern His mind. Yet there is one prayer which God must answer, and that is the prayer of Jesus— “. . . that they may be one just as We are one . . .” (John 17:22). Are we as close to Jesus Christ as that?
God is not concerned about our plans; He doesn’t ask, “Do you want to go through this loss of a loved one, this difficulty, or this defeat?” No, He allows these things for His own purpose. The things we are going through are either making us sweeter, better, and nobler men and women, or they are making us more critical and fault-finding,and more insistent on our own way. The things that happen either make us evil, or they make us more saintly, depending entirely on our relationship with God and its level of intimacy. If we will pray, regarding our own lives, “Your will be done” (Matthew 26:42), then we will be encouraged and comforted by John 17, knowing that our Father is working according to His own wisdom, accomplishing what is best. When we understand God’s purpose, we will not become small-minded and cynical. Jesus prayed nothing less for us than absolute oneness with Himself, just as He was one with the Father. Some of us are far from this oneness; yet God will not leave us alone until we are one with Him— because Jesus prayed, “. . . that they all may be one . . . .”

Dear Sir,
I read your article about David Wilkerson's death. When I first heard of the details of the "accident" the Lord also said to me "suicide".
I attended Times Square Church for some time. The Lord directed my to go to this church and to be careful and watch for something. He was telling me that I was to be on guard but he would not tell me about what. I listened to the sermons and over time came to see very clearly a theme of self-righteousness coming from Carter Conlon, especially. It is dressed up very cleanly and very scriputal but in the end it is a message that if you have God you are better than the Publican. He speaks continually of the ungodly world and ungodly churches. Pointing the finger at faults of others is a good sign of one's own self righteousness. Ungodly means the absense of God and as the Bible says God fills both the Heaven and the Earth....he is never absent.
This is a demonic spirit and the people in the congregation are in a type of prison. You may not want or wish to believe this but I have seen a black clouded demonic spirit standing in the church. It fled when it realized that I had seen it.
There are people in the church who have demonic spirits on them also and I have counted at least 6....three in the choir, two in the congregation and I suspect the leadership.
There is also a false holy spirit in the church trying to get the congregation to believe that the joy they experience is of God. This is a lie and trick of the enemy.
The proof of the spirit of self-righteousness is that when I obeyed God to leave the church, I was freed from my own self righteousness. God sent me there to test me and to reveal my own sin in me.
I pray for my dear friends who are still there. They will not listen to me. I ask God for the Holy Spirit to reveal what he revealed to me to reveal to them. I cry a lot for them. I cry a lot for my friends. God please help them.

PPPS: I received a call on the 1st of May 2012 from a distraught Brother in California. He has been a supporter of David Wilkerson’s “World Challenge Ministry” for ten (10) years, and was having a very hard time receiving what was written in this sermonet. In fact, it was after having read it through that the Lord continued to focus his attention on the two (2) roadside signs – “Anderson County Line” and “Neches River” – in the “accident scene” picture shown below. The signs just wouldn’t go away. They continued to haunt him. God wanted him to look up the meaning of the two (2) names – “Anderson” and “Neches” – and after many days, this is what he found:
Anderson - son of Anders/Andrew
Neches - avaricious (covetous; greedy of gain; immoderately desirous of accumulating property)
So just what was God trying to tell him?
Well, the meaning of the first sign – “Anderson” – brought to his mind one of the twelve (12) disciples/apostles of Jesus Christ: “Andrew”. But when he combined it with the meaning of the second sign – “Neches” – it brought to his mind the disciple/apostle “Judas Iscariot” who also carried out the ultimate act of “selfishness” by committing “self-murder”.
God has spoken a Word, through two road signs, for all who have ears to receive it.
Also worth noting, this same Brother from California called the “World Challenge Ministry” and asked if it was true that David Wilkerson was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the “accident”. Their reply was, “David Wilkerson was a short person and did not wear a seat belt.”
