The following letter-form was brought about as a means of teaching my children the Word of God through the mail. And of course, quite naturally so, that’s the reason I begin these letters with "Dear Children" and end them with "Love Dad". So for the rest of you who participate in these weekly messages, please keep their original intended purpose in mind.
Dear Children,
The title of today’s message is “Until Death Do Us Part!”…and it’s all about marriage…and it’s all about a death because of a marriage…and it’s gonna be a scorcher!!! I mean without the slightest bit of hesitation, without any reservation whatsoever, I boldly proclaim that we’re gonna say a few things about a “God-designed marriage” that you’ve never-ever heard before! I guarantee it! In fact it was pretty near three (3) years ago (12/28/03) that we published a sermonet –– “A Christian Marriage Outside The Law!” –– in which we announced the very unusual way in which the Lord God Almighty “hitched” me to my God-chosen, God-given wife Sandy. It was a God thing! And what followed shortly thereafter (3/14/04) was a sermonet –– “My Natural Wife Was Annie But My Spiritual Wife Is Sandy!” –– in which we began the process of explaining the difference between a marriage that’s of God (spiritual) and one that ain’t (natural). And with all that in mind, let today’s sermonet begin!
“And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female, And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh? Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together (G2201), let not man put asunder.” (Matthew 19:4-6 KJV)
The Word of God says that God Almighty “made male and female” and “joined them together” to “become one flesh”…and of course that’s what a “God kind of marriage” is all about. In fact the following information about God’s very unique “joining process” will help us take this “two becoming one” thing just a little bit further:
Hath Joined Together: Óõíåæåõîåí [Strong’s G2201], “hath yoked together,” as oxen in the plough, where each must pull equally in order to bring it on. Among the ancients, they put a yoke upon the necks of a new married couple, or chains on their arms, to shew that they were to be one, closely united, and pulling equally together in all the concerns of life. (Clarke’s Commentary On The Bible)
You see an amazing thing happens whenever God (not man) “yokes” his chosen couple (male and female) in marriage –– the “two flesh” become “one flesh with the power of two” for the glory of God. And with that in mind, let’s turn to Webster’s for a better understanding of this word “flesh”:
Flesh - A compound substance forming a large part of an animal, consisting of the softer solids, as distinguished from the bones and the fluids. Under the general appellation of flesh, we include the muscles, fat, glands and etc., which invest the bones and are covered with the skin. It is sometimes restricted to the muscles. (Webster’s 1828 Dictionary)
So are you starting to get the picture? Well let me help you connect the dots. Because the first “male and female” that God “joined together” in “holy matrimony” to “give Him the glory” was the lovely couple named Adam and Eve. In fact the following is a brief account of that awesome “wedding in the garden”:
“And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man. And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.” (Genesis 2:21-24 KJV)
Now isn’t that amazing! God first made Eve from Adam for Adam, and then God joined Eve to Adam…as in “I now pronounce you man and wife – you can kiss the bride.” In other words “one flesh became two flesh” so that the “two flesh” could become “one flesh with the power of two” for the glory of God.
Got it? I guess not. I mean you look a little perplexed. Well maybe it will help if I show you the specifics of how God expected this “two becoming one flesh” –– Adam and Eve –– to give Him the glory. Because you see it was only one chapter earlier that the Almighty laid out the ground rules for their “working” marriage:
“So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.” (Genesis 1:27-28 KJV)
Now having said that, let’s go back to Webster’s definition of the “flesh”. Because you see in the truest sense of the word, the flesh is the “muscle” that God gives the human to perform the “work” that will “give God the glory”. And getting back to our lovely newly-wed couple, the work that God had ordered them to do was beyond human comprehension. Talk about awesome! I mean, in order for them to “replenish the earth” the “two flesh” were going to have to become “one flesh” and make a whole bunch of babies. I mean we’re talking about repopulating the entire earth, as in filling it back up with people:
“Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward. As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth. Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate.” (Psalms 127:3-5 KJV)
But that ain’t even all. Because you see these children that would “replenish the earth” would be directly responsible for the second part of God’s work program to “subdue the earth”. And just in case the “subdue” word might be a little foreign to you, it means to “dominate or tread down”:
“But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall. And ye shall tread down the wicked; for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet in the day that I shall do this, saith the LORD of hosts.” (Malachi 4:2-3 KJV)
So just who were these “wicked enemies” that Adam and Eve and their children were to “subdue” through the Power of God in them? Would you believe “the Devil”? I mean, check this one out:
“Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” (Ephesians 6:10-12 KJV)
You see it was way back in time, back when Lucifer rebelled against his Creator, that God Almighty gave him the new name of “Satan” and then the “Royal Boot”. In other words God kicked the “wicked wretch” out of Heaven! In fact Satan’s new place of residence was Earth, and the reason God did it was to put His creation –– the “male” and the “female” –– to “the test”. Because you see back “in the beginning” they were both “perfect”, but of course this was all subject to change if they didn’t pass “the test”. In fact here’s just a few words from Matthew Henry on their perfect nature:
“Man was made last of all the creatures: this was both an honour and a favour to him. Yet man was made the same day that the beasts were; his body was made of the same earth with theirs; and while he is in the body, he inhabits the same earth with them. God forbid that by indulging the body, and the desires of it, we should make ourselves like the beasts that perish! Man was to be a creature different from all that had been hitherto made. Flesh and spirit, heaven and earth, must be put together in him. God said, “Let us make man.” Man, when he was made, was to glorify the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Into that great name we are baptized, for to that great name we owe our being. It is the soul of man that especially bears God's image. Man was made upright, Ecc_7:29. His understanding saw Divine things clearly and truly; there were no errors or mistakes in his knowledge; his will consented at once, and in all things, to the will of God. His affections were all regular, and he had no bad appetites or passions. His thoughts were easily brought and fixed to the best subjects. Thus holy, thus happy, were our first parents in having the image of God upon them.” (Matthew Henry Concise Commentary)
Now that’s the way it was back in the Garden of Eden during the “days of perfection”. But then came “the BIG test”…and what a bummer that turned out to be! I mean Eve got tripped up by “Old Splitfoot”, took a bite of sin, and shortly thereafter convinced her “flesh-mate” to do the same. In fact it was from that point on that Adam and Eve’s “perfect flesh” kinda like developed a very serious character flaw. Because you see once “sin” became a part of them, their “fleshly desire” to perform the “spiritual” work that would be “pleasing to God” just all-of-the-sudden took on a more “natural” form. In other words the lovely couple’s sin-filled flesh only wanted to “please itself” and not God. And, of course, it’s because of their sin-corrupted flesh that all mankind inherited the very same problem –– if it feels good, looks good, smells good, taste good, or even sounds good, the “flesh” is gonna want it…and it’s gonna want it no matter what God the Father might say!
And having said that let’s move on into our discussion on present-day marriages…as in the here and now. Because you see when it comes down to this thing about Jesus-professing Christians making the right choice of “who’s gonna marry who”, the majority of them make the wrong choice by depending on the advice of their flesh when making the choice. And of course this fleshly thing about choosing marriage partners can even get into religions. I mean, believe it or not but churches are actually promoting seminars on how to choose a mate. They’ve even got an easy to use checklist to determine just the right mate for a Christian to pick. But I’m here to tell you that there is only one way to know the right one when it comes to marriage, and that’s by asking the only One who knows the right one – the Lord God Almighty. Because you see if you make the wrong choice, which is the “natural choice”, you’re gonna be in for a whole bunch of problems…and it could even cost you your life!
And having said that, we can proceed with the real-life story of “Robin and John”. Because you see it was on the 5th of October 2003, that Sandy and I headed out to conduct our first big prayer meeting. We had only known each other for twenty-four (24) days, and been married “in the Lord” for sixteen (16) days, but yet Father God was sending us out to perform a “healing and deliverance” in the Name of Jesus. In fact the Almighty had yoked us together for such a time as this –– two becoming one for the glory of God –– and the Devil knew it meant BIG trouble for him! So it only stands to reason that we were a few hours late for the meeting because of no spare tire and a serious flat on the way. But anyway, we called to let every one know we would be late, and they patiently awaited our arrival.
The meeting was held at the house of two new converts (Jerry and Kathy), and many from their extended family were there as well. The main focus of the meeting was to pray for God’s healing power to come down on Kathy’s sister (Robin). Because, as well as I can remember, Robin had allowed the removal of both breast in an effort to eradicate the cancer that later returned to attack her with a vengeance. So as the prayer meeting began I sought the Lord for His Will with Robin, and His immediate reply was for me to ask Robin for her favorite Scripture. Well, I had no earthly idea where we were going with this one, but I asked. And it was Robin’s reply that took me to Revelation 21:4 – “And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.”
Now that’s what you call a “promise Scripture”! In fact it truly reflected on the pain and suffering that Robin had endured throughout her life. And it was right about the time that Robin voiced her hope of it coming to pass that the Lord gave me the very next verse as His promise of her healing: “And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.” (Revelation 21:5 KJV)
God was working in an awesome way that night for Robin! And what followed immediately thereafter was yet another Word from the Lord to Robin. However, this one was just a little bit different. Because you see this particular Word added a “condition” on top of His promised healing for Robin: “And Moses said unto the people, Remember this day, in which ye came out from Egypt, out of the house of bondage; for by strength of hand the LORD brought you out from this place: there shall no leavened bread be eaten.” (Exodus 13:3 KJV)
So what did it all mean? Well, in the pure and simple of it, God was saying that Robin was being delivered from the curse that had taken control of her life, but she must be willing to separate herself from “the corruption” that had caused it. And just what was this corruption? Well at the time that God gave me those Words for Robin I had no idea that “it” was actually her husband John! However, it wouldn’t be too awful long before I would find out.
But moving on along with the story, it was only two days later, the 7th of October 2003, that Sandy and I were invited to conduct another prayer meeting. This time it was held at one of the couple’s home that attended our first meeting, and Robin was there to receive her promise. Because it was that night, through the Power of God working through Sandy’s “laying on of hands”, that Robin got healed. In fact the Lord used Sandy that night in an awesome way to touch many of the souls in attendance. But that’s not all! Because it was shortly before the meeting ended that Sandy spoke a Word from God that directed me to prophesy over the three youth that were in attendance; Savannah, Adrian, and the son of Esther. And it was during my prayer for each of the three that the Lord gave me something specific for two of them but not for Adrian.
So what was going on? I was perplexed to say the least! I mean why didn’t the Lord God Almighty give me a Word for Adrian? It was almost like the young boy’s life was yet-to-be determined, and God wasn’t going to speak until it had been decided. In fact little did I know it at the time but that was actually the case…seeing how Adrian was Robin’s grandson (her daughter’s son), and Robin was raising him as if he were her own son.
But anyway, as the “two day” trend continued, it was on the 9th of October 2003 that the Lord gave me “I Corinthians 5:1-13” for Robin…and it had everything to do with her husband John: “It is reported commonly that there is fornication among you, and such fornication as is not so much as named among the Gentiles”. Because you see what that Scripture did was describe the spirit in John to a “T”. He was the corruption in Robin’s life, and verse 8 made it abundantly clear that it was time for her to separate: “Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.”
So the mystery of “Robin and John” was starting to unfold. But just how did all these pieces of the puzzle fit together? What did it all mean? Well it didn’t take too long to find out. Because it was only two days later, the 11th of October 2003, that we held another prayer meeting at Jerry and Kathy’s house. The attendance was rather large that night, and one of the new faces was Robin’s husband John. And what I soon discovered was the mystery behind God’s chosen Scripture for Robin (I Corinthians 5:1-13). Because you see John is a full-blown child molester! In fact a few of those in attendance had even been molested by him at a much younger age. I mean the sheer number of his victims was staggering, but yet no one had pressed charges against him. And of course, because of it, John continued to practice his unimaginable evil on whomever and whenever the spirit moved him.
Now please get the picture. There we were, holding a prayer meeting that was dedicated to giving God the glory for His Power to “deliver and heal”, but yet there was this man in our midst who had not only molested dozens of children but was still very active in his demonic activities. So what were we to do?
Well as the Almighty would have it, we gave him the opportunity to receive Jesus as his Lord and Saviour. In fact it was during the time that we were all gathered together in prayer that Jerry witnessed to him. He gave John the chance to “come clean”, but John’s reply was that he was already saved; he had attended church since he was a little boy. And of course it was that response from John that kinda like heated up the conversation as we tried our best to convince him that he was in no way saved by the Blood of Jesus. However, the discussion didn’t last too long. Because it was only shortly thereafter that the Lord gave me the final instructions concerning him: “It’s over for John; he will not receive Jesus!”
So the mystery of God’s Words concerning “Robin and John” was finally starting to unfold, and there was one thing that we knew for certain; John was the corruption (leaven) in Robin’s life that she must be separate from in order to remain healed. However, as could be expected, Robin was having a very hard time receiving this revelation from God concerning her life and her husband. And that’s the way it was until the 28th of October when Kathy gave Robin a call and invited her to stay at her house for a few days.
Well that was the breakthrough that we needed. Because the very next day Sandy and I drove over to Jerry and Kathy’s to interceded for Robin in prayer before making the call that would finalize her visit. In fact it was immediately after our call that Sandy and I drove over to pick up Robin and Adrian. We prayed all the way, asking for grace and mercy on our journey, and we prayed all the way back, giving God the glory for a mission accomplished.
After arriving at Jerry and Kathy’s we all prayed for Robin until her fever broke. Because you see even though Robin was healed of cancer on the 7th, and her fever was no more, it was her continued association with “John the corruption” that allowed her curse to return. In fact it was shortly thereafter that the Lord gave me “Matthew 14:11” for Robin: “And his head was brought in a charger, and given to the damsel: and she brought it to her mother.” And it was through that particular Scripture that the Lord gave me the big picture concerning Robin and Adrian, which I shared with her that night. And this is what I had to say:
“You are called of God to be Adrian’s spiritual mentor. He is a very special child who’s development in Christ can only come about through you. And, of course, it’s because of this that the Devil wants your head, which he will have if you do not separate from your husband John. You must choose between Jesus and John. And it’s because of this choice that you must make, that the Lord wouldn’t give me a prophetic Word for Adrian on 10/7/03. In other words, Adrian’s life is yet to be determined! Because if you, Robin, will separate from John you will live to raise-up Adrian in the Lord. But if you stay with John you will die and Adrian will never come to know Jesus. The choice is yours.”
So God’s Truth had finally been presented to Robin in it’s entirety. And it was two days later, the 31st of October, while having breakfast with Jerry, Kathy, Robin, and Adrian, that I had my final talk with Robin about being unequally “yoked” with her “husband”. Because it was only two days later that she made the decision to return to John. And it was that same day, the 2nd of November 2003, that the Lord God Almighty gave me Jeremiah 7:16 as pertaining to Robin: “Therefore pray not thou for this people, neither lift up cry nor prayer for them, neither make intercession to me: for I will not hear thee.” In other words God said “Don’t intercede for Robin anymore – it’s over!”
And that’s the sad story of Robin. Because on the 1st of June 2006, two and a-half years later, Robin died.
“Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof. Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin…Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?” (Romans 6: 12-13; 16 KJV)
Now having said all that, let’s get back to the topic of our discussion: “Until Death Do Us Part!” Because you see when it comes to this thing about “two people, that were joined together in marriage, not becoming separated until death”, it can go either one of two ways…that is whenever Christians are the ones who are yoked together as one:
#1.) A God-designed marriage (spiritual): The man and woman (male and female) who were chosen by God to become one, and who were likewise joined together by God as one, are to remain together as one until separated by death: “What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.” Their marriage is a God thing (spiritual), and their relationship with Jesus (salvation) depends on their relationship with each other (two becoming one in Christ) which must be continued until death finalizes the process that God had intended for the marriage.
So that’s what a God-designed marriage is all about. And of course it was in our sermonet of 12/28/03 –– “A Christian Marriage Outside The Law!” –– that we announced to the whole wide world (www) my 9/20/03 marriage to my God-chosen, God-given wife Sandy. It was one of those “#1 marriages” designed by God to give Him the glory. And even though Sandy separated from me on 12/14/03, and went back into the world to become a “wife of whoredoms”, she is still my wife and will remain my wife “until death do us part”.
In fact it was during the time that Sandy and I were together as “one flesh”, that Father God let her know just how important our marriage was for her. Because you see what He told her was that if she separated from me, her God-appointed husband, she would die. And of course seeing how our marriage was in the Spirit of the Lord (spiritual), the death that Father God was referring to was a spiritual one for Sandy…as in no more the child of God. In other words, if Sandy were to physically die today, separated from me and living in sin, she would die spiritually lost (separated from the Father) and suffer the burning flames of Hell forever and ever and ever. And as bad as the situation might seem (no contact with Sandy since 12/14/03), I have God’s promise that she will return to me in the very near future and fulfill God’s plan for our lives “until death do us part”. Amen!
Now what I have just given you is a mighty fine example of what God Almighty expects of those He “yokes” together in “Holy Wedlock” –– “Until Death Do Us Part” –– and no matter what the circumstances!!! So that’s the first of two ways that Christians can become joined together in marriage until separated by death. And now let’s look at the second:
#2.) A man-designed marriage (natural): The man and woman (male and female) who were not chosen by God to become one, and not joined together as one by God, but yet enter into a marriage relationship and remain together as one until separated by death. They chose each other for fleshly reasons (natural) and were joined together as one by natural means (minister, justice of the peace, and etc.). Their marriage is not of God (spiritual), and their relationship with Jesus (salvation) diminishes day by day until it is “no more”: “Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?” (2 Crinthians 6:14 KJV)
So as you can see, this second choice of “two people being joined together in marriage and not separating until death” is not a very good one to make if the couple plans on making it into Heaven. Because in this second situation, either one or both of the marriage partners are a Christian at some point in the marriage, but, as a result of the yoke being “natural” instead of “spiritual”, their relationship with Jesus deteriorates rapidly. And of course the sad but yet very good example of this #2 marriage situation is our real-life story of “Robin and John”.
In fact now is a good time to give you a few more of the details of their story. Because you see in the beginning Robin had a relationship with Jesus, and even though her husband never did. In fact Robin was a very sweet and tender person who sincerely sought to help people in any way that she could. Her chosen profession was a hospital nurse. However, in her efforts to help “John the molester”, Robin became “one with the demons” that were working through him as she became “one with John” in marriage. Robin even confessed to me the unnatural things that would happen in their room whenever these powerful demons would visit John. I mean we're talking about things that go bump in the night, and they sometimes even rearrange the furniture. Poltergeist!!!
So, as Robin became one with a man who was trafficking demons, the demons in him became one with her with a deadly affect:
“Know ye not that your bodies are the members of Christ? shall I then take the members of Christ, and make them the members of an harlot? God forbid. What? know ye not that he which is joined to an harlot is one body? for two, saith he, shall be one flesh. But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit. Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body. What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.” (1 Corinthians 6:15-20 KJV)
Now in the pure and simple of it, that Scripture lays out the details on the demonic transfer that took place between John and Robin. Because you see the way it worked was that “John the harlot” had forsaken the “One True God” that he claimed to worship in favor of the “god of perverted sex” (Satan) so that Robin’s intimate relationship with him made her one and the same as him. Got it? In other words when the “two became one flesh” (as in sexual intercourse), it was Robin who became the “fornicator” that was joined to the “harlot” as a member of his body. And of course the result of this ungodly relationship was deadly for the Christ-professing Robin:
“Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.” (1 Corinthians 3:16-17 KJV)
So that’s the second way in which a Christian can become joined together in marriage until separated by death, but it’s not what anyone in their right mind should want. In fact I sympathize with Robin in her failure to obey God, but of course my sympathy won’t do her any good now. I mean I too was married to a “harlot” (Annie). And it was because of my Christian upbringing that I was determined to never get a divorce…regardless of my marriage situation. I believed that once a person got married they stayed that way “until death do us part”. However, that was not what God wanted for Annie and me. And it was only because of God’s grace and mercy that I too, just as Robin, had the opportunity to escape my unholy marriage. The only difference is that I obeyed God by separating from my spouse and suffered through the pain and anguish that went along with it…but I lived to tell about it! (See sermonet “My Natural Wife Was Annie But My Spiritual Wife Is Sandy! (3/14/04)” for more of the details.)
Marriage! A very important part of God’s perfect design for a man and a woman, but yet so grossly misunderstood by the Christian world of today. However, by the grace of God we at FMHCCI will continue in our efforts to teach/preach the “Gospel Truth” concerning “Holy Matrimony”…and we’ll even take it to the point of encouraging “unequally yoked” Christians to separate from their “unholy partners”.
And on an ending note, the only difference between a marriage that’s of God (spiritual/of His Holy Spirit) and one that ain’t (natural/of your flesh) goes back to the “object” of a Christian’s faith. I mean do you really want to please God? Are you willing to marry the one that Father God has chosen for you even though he/she might not be what you would choose for a mate? Are you willing to just hear what the Father wants and then just do what the Father wants if that’s what it takes to get into Heaven?
“This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh... For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.” (Galatians 5:16; Romans 8:13 KJV)
Hear God, obey God, and marry the one that He’s chosen for you so that you too can “keep on keeping the faith in Jesus!!!”
Love,
Dad (Bruce Hallman)
