The following letter-form was brought about as a means of teaching my children the Word of God through the mail. And of course, quite naturally so, that’s the reason I begin these letters with "Dear Children" and end them with "Love Dad". So for the rest of you who participate in these weekly messages, please keep their original intended purpose in mind.
2 January, 2011
Dear Children,
There is no better way to start off the New Year than a sermonet on Jimmy Swaggart. I mean, after all, that’s what the Lord told me to do on New Year’s Day. Because you see it was Friday night (the 31st of December 2010), as I was preparing yet another YouTube video for the sermonet “Jimmy Swaggart Got His Door(s) Blown Off”, that I heard Jimmy Swaggart trash up the following Words of Jesus:
“He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.” (John 7:38 KJV)
It was unbelievable what I heard Jimmy Swaggart speak through his own mouth, that I received through my ears, that finally hit bottom in my stomach and made me want to throw up! An “abomination” is putting it mildly!
But anyway, getting back to my story, it was yesterday morning while in prayer that the Lord directed me to check out his commentary on that same Scripture in his ”Jimmy Swaggart’s Expositor’s Study Bible” (JSESB) And of course what I found there is what this message for today – “Jimmy Swaggart Doesn’t Doeth The Will Of The Father!” – is all about!
However, before I give you all the nitty-gritty details of Jimmy Swaggart’s error, please allow me to set the stage with the following truth from Donna:
Donna's Dream With Jimmy Swaggart
I dreamed that one morning I went to church, and as I was walking to the door I stopped and stood back to watch some old men looking at something over the door. They would look at it, shake their heads and walk away. Then other old men would walk up and look, shake their head also. I got closer to see what they were looking at. Up over the door was a strange sight. A bunch of nails had been driven in the door facing. Some were driven straight and some were driven in crooked and some were over lapping each other. I ask one of the old timers who was the one responsible for this and he told me it was Jimmy Swaggart. I went on in the church and when the preacher started to preach it was in such a manner that it brought people to their feet shouting and praising God. But I sat still and watched the preacher and while the people were making all the noise they couldn’t hear him cursing and saying filthy words. That was the end of the dream. Several days went by and I couldn’t get that dream out of my mind. So I prayed and asked the Lord to give me some meaning to the dream. A few days later I went to a meeting and a woman was the speaker. When she was closing she said, "And when you drive that nail in make sure you drive it in straight". OK, I thought, she knows something I don’t . So I ask what she meant by driving in nails straight. Then she took me to the book of Ezra Ch.9 verse 8. Well you know the book of Ezra and how it goes. I told her about the dream and she said she tried to talk to Jimmy and he wouldn’t listen. Also she said a elderly woman went to him and told him she was praying for him and he flat out told her he didn’t need her prayers that he could do his own praying.
What a dream, and what a powerful picture of the deplorable conditions at Jimmy Swaggart Ministries (JSM) and their Family Worship Center (FWC)! Because you see the “nails” driven into the door facing of the church are representative of the gospel preached at JSM/FWC. Some nails were driven in straight: the gospel preached and taught in truth without compromise. Some nails were driven in crooked: the gospel preached in error and not in truth. Some nails were driven overlapping: the gospel preached in truth one moment, and then preached in error the next, without the audience even realizing the error.
What a jumbled up mess!!! And Jimmy Swaggart’s faithful followers are “drinking it all in”!!! They’re actually “believing” the error of his ways!!!
And seeing how we’re on the subject of “drinking” and “believing”, what better time than now to get into the key Scripture for this message:
“In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)” (John 7:37-39 KJV)
That’s the one! And now let’s see what Jimmy Swaggart has to say in his perverted “JSESB”:
“He who believes on Me (it is “not doing,” but rather, “believing”), as the Scripture hath said (refers to the Word of God being the story of Christ and Him Crucified; all the Sacrifices pointed to Christ and what He would do at the Cross, as well as the entirety of the Tabernacle and Temple and all their appointments), out of his belly (innermost being) shall flow rivers of Living Water (speaks of Christ directly, and Believers indirectly).” (John 7:38 JSESB)
Talk about “overlapping nails”! That one’s chock full of them! I could write a twenty-pager “expounding” on the Jimmy Swaggart error in that one… but I won’t. This sermonet has got to be short and to the point. And our focus will be on the following:
“He who believes on Me (it is “not doing,” but rather, “believing”)”
Jimmy Swasggart says that “believing” on Jesus is not “doing”. And it’s that same “belief” of Jimmy Sawaggart that will take him and all those who “believe” in his “overlapping nails” straight to Hell:
“Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.” (Matthew 7:21-23 KJV)
The Word of God says, “he that doeth the will of my Father which is in Heaven shall enter into the kingdom of heaven”. And of course it’s those same Words of Jesus that diametrically oppose what Jimmy Swaggart says that John 7:38 actually means. In fact let’s dig a little bit deeper into God’s Word and see what it means to “believe on Jesus”:
“And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst. But I said unto you, That ye also have seen me, and believe not. All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out. For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me. And this is the Father's will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day. And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.” (John 6:35-40 KJV)
Jesus, the Word made Flesh, was the Last Adam who did what the First Adam did not do: He obeyed the Will of the Father without compromise!
“Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise.” (John 5:19 KJV)
And of course the way in which Jesus, the Son of God, “obeyed the Will of the Father without compromise” was by “doing” nothing of Himself, but only that which He “saw” His Father “do”. And having said that, we can get back to what it means to “believe on Jesus”:
“I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness. And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world. He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day. For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak. And I know that his commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak.” (John 12:46-50 KJV)
You see to “believe on Jesus” is to have “faith” in what He has already done for us. Jesus overcame the “sin of the world” through His “obedience to the Will of the Father without compromise” so that He can help us “do” the same. And it’s now through the Word of Jesus that we can receive “the Will of the Father” that we must “do” as communicated through the Holy Spirit:
“But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:” (John 15:26 KJV)
“It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.” (John 6:63 KJV)
So do you get the picture? In order to “believe on Jesus” we must “do” the Will of the Father as communicated through His Son by the Holy Spirit:
“For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.” (Romans 8:14 KJV)
“Believing on Jesus” has everything to “do” with “doing” the Will of the Father through the leading of the Holy Spirit. And with that in mind, let’s get back to Jimmy Swaggart and all his “overlapping” and “crooked” nails. Because the Word of God, as spoken through Brother James, will tell us exactly how Jimmy Swaggart’s mess all came about:
“If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord. A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.” (James 1:5-8 KJV)
The “Wisdom of God” is the “Will of God” spoken through Jesus by the Holy Spirit, which, if obeyed, will bring about God’s “Truth” being manifested in the Believer. However, if the Believer rejects that same “Word of Wisdom”, the results will be a whole bunch of “overlapping” and “crooked” nails in the Believer’s life. In other words Jimmy Swaggart is “double minded and unstable in all his ways” because he has forsaken the “doing” of God’s “Words of Wisdom”.
And with that in mind we’ll close this one down with one final Scripture from Brother James:
“Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls. But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.” (James 1:21-22 KJV)
Now what could be any plainer than that? The “Word of Wisdom” – the “Will of the Father” through the Holy Spirit – will become “engrafted” in us (the Believer) as we “do” it! And with Jimmy Swaggart’s quote in mind – it is “not doing,” but rather, “believing” – let’s see what he had to say about that very same Scripture:
“But be ye doers of the Word (the “Word” has the potential to do great and mighty things within our lives), and not hearers only (while hearing the Word is definitely necessary, at the same time it must be heard properly, and that refers to a heart that wants to receive), deceiving your own selves. (It’s bad enough to be deceived by others, but worse yet to purposely deceive ourselves. If we think we can live this life without total Faith in Christ and the Cross, we are doing exactly what James said not to do, “deceiving ourselves.”) (James 1:21-2 JSESB)
So just who is it deceiving Jimmy Swaggart? Why has he chosen to substitute “doing the Will of the Father” with his idolatrous “having Faith in the Cross of Christ”?
Jimmy Swaggart and his “overlapping” and “crooked” nails! What more can I say!
Until next time, watch out for those “overlapping” and “crooked” nails… so that you can “keep on keeping the faith in Jesus!”
