And The Widow’s Mites!
"And there came a certain poor widow, and she threw in two mites, which make a farthing. And he called unto him his disciples, and saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That this poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury: For all they did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want did cast in all that she had, even all her living." (Mark 12:42-44 KJV)
******************************
In years past Jimmy Swaggart told of a serious warning he received from Almighty God through a "poor little widow woman". As the story goes, it was back in the early days of his evangelistic crusades that an elderly lady handed him a twenty dollar bill during one of his services. It was obvious from her appearance that she lived in poverty, so Evangelist Swaggart kindly returned her the donation by saying "No, you keep it." Instantly the woman bristled and responded with "I’m not giving this money to you, I’m giving it to God!" With her words still ringing in his ears, the Lord clearly spoke the following to Evangelist Swaggart: "This money the people are giving to you is to be used for the purpose of reaching lost souls with the Gospel of Jesus Christ."
Well, the picture below tells the rest of the story.
How do you think Evangelist Swaggart did with God’s mandate? Do you think the widow woman would have been pleased?
"And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry. But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided? So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God." (Luke 12:19-21 KJV)
